Funeral services for Ina F. Walker, of Kansas City, MO formerly of Reliance, SD will be Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Reliance Methodist Church in Reliance with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm with family present at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Ina Faith Eymer was born October 15, 1912 to Arthur and Purllue (Cosgrove) Eymer in Reliance, South Dakota.  She graduated from Reliance High School in 1930.  She received her teaching certificate from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota, and taught country schools until the summer of 1936 when she enrolled in DeGuile’s School of Cosmetology in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After completing the course, and passing the state Board of Cosmetic Therapy and Hairdressing examination, she worked in Kimball, Mitchell, and Chamberlain.  She owned a beauty shop in Chamberlain with Luella Schaub, and later was in partnership with Stewart’s Beauty School of Sioux Falls in a shop over Greg Drug Store in Chamberlain.  She returned to teaching again during the 1945-1946 school year.

On April 6, 1940, Ina married Frank L. Walker in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

They lived in Chamberlain, and Cleveland, Ohio, and after Frank was discharged from the Marines, the family again made their home in Chamberlain.

Later, when Frank began working in road construction, the family moved often, and during that time they lived in a number of states.  After Frank retired, they moved to Reliance, and for many years, winters were spent in Weslaco, Texas.  In 2004, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and Ina continued living there after Frank’s death in 2007.

Family was always most important to Ina, but over the years, she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making quilts, and genealogy research.  She liked beaches, and was able to visit South Padre Island several times while they were in Texas.  She and Frank both enjoyed bird watching.

She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star when the family lived in Kadoka, and she was a member of the Lyman-Brule Genealogical Society.

Ina passed away at Garden Valley Nursing Manor in Kansas City on March 24, 2012.  She is survived by her children, Carole (Dennis) Zimmerman, Belle Fourche, South Dakota; Terry (Joanne) Walker, Bucyrus, KS; Linda Schaber, Kansas City, MO; a sister, Arleen Swanson, White Lake, SD; five grandchildren, Teri Schmidt, The Woodlands, TX; Scott Zimmerman, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Jonathan (Kelly) Walker, Vass, North Carolina; Richard Schaber, Tokyo, Japan; Robert Schaber, Kansas City, MO; and three great grandchildren, Taylor Schmidt, Jacob Walker, and Peyton Walker.
