Violet Skogsberg – House May 29, 1910 – April 30 2001
Violet House was born May 29, 1910, at Westfield, IA to John and Susan Skogsberg. In 1918, the family to a farm near Reliance, SD. Vi attended Rosebud School District 55 country school and graduated from Reliance High School in 1930. She earned her teaching certification from Normal School in Spearfish, SD. Before her marriage, Vi worked in Sioux City, IA.
February 24, 1936, she and Raymond House were married at Elk Point, SD. They lived at Westfield until 1977, when they moved to Murray County, MN. They lived in Lowville Twp. in the Bear Lake area until 1944, then moved to a farm in Lime Lake Twp., living there until 1970 when they moved to Slayton. In August, 1977, they moved into Sunrise Terrace Apartments at Slayton.
Vi was a resident of Slayton Manor Care Center for about six weeks before she passed away there April 30, 2001, at the age of 90.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in the U.M.W. and had served as President and in the Lydia-Naomi Circle. She belonged to the Goodwill Extension Club for many years and held several offices in Eastern Star. Vi enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking bread, reading, raising houseplants and spending time with her family and many friends.
Survivors include her husband at Slayton, a son, Jerry, Vader, WA., her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Earl Johnson, Slayton; five grandchildren: Scott House, Shari Zieman, Tony, Allen and Chad Johnson; six great-grandchildren: Bradley and Jessica Zieman, T.J. , Tucker, Thomas and David Johnson; two sisters: Anne Torness, Milbank, SD and Edith Taylor, Sioux City, IA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Neil Skogsberg, grandson Paul House, and great-granddaughter, Olivia Johnson.
