Ruby I. Sammons, 8/24/1917-3/3/2011


Funeral services for Ruby Sammons, who died on March 3, 2011 were held on March 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with interment at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Ruby Sammons, born on Aug. 24, 1917, the daughter of Ellis and Olga (Petersen) Albery, She received her education in Reliance and Hermosa, graduating from Reliance High School. Ruby and Floyd Sammons were married in Custer on March 24, 1935. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before Floyd passed away in 2007.


They moved to Midland in 1948. After selling their farm/ranch to their son, Ronnie, they moved to Johnson Siding in the Black Hills, and spent their winters in Apache Junction, AZ. For health reasons, they sold their home in the hills and moved back to Midland in 2000.
Ruby was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, the Midland American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Bad River Extension Club.


Survivors  include a son, Ronnie Sammons and his wife Emily, Midland; two daughters, Arlyne Markwed and her husband, Billy, Midland, and JoAnne Quatier, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Albery and his wife, Delores, Sabetha, Kansas, and Robert Albery and his wife, Betty, Virginia; a son-in-law, Joe Fosheim, Midland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Sammons, a daughter, Shirley Fosheim; a son-in-law, Bob Quatier; a great-grandson, Devon Sammons; her parents; and two brothers.
