Aletha Buchanan, 93

Aletha Buchanan, 93, White Lake, died Monday, July 11, 2011, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services were held Friday, July 15, 2011, 11 am, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial followed at the White Lake Cemetery.

Aletha Alice Buchanan was born September 8, 1917, at White Lake, SD, to George and Helen (Lloyd) Husman. She attended school in Lyman County and graduated from Reliance High School. She graduated from Wessington Springs Junior College and taught school in rural and private schools throughout South Dakota for forty-five years. On August 9, 1945, she married Paul W. Buchanan in Omaha, NE. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University, in Mitchell in 1970. She loved to crochet and make afghans for family and friends. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Beavers and husband Dean of Kearney, NE; Brenda Satterlee and husband Wayne of Mitchell; one sister, Irene Wright of White Lake, SD; five grandchildren: Michael Satterlee, Holly Fortier, Dave Satterlee, Heidi Barnhouse, Brett Mattheis, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Stephanie Mattheis, two brothers and two sisters.
