Josephine Lindley Hamiel 1921-2008

Josephine Hamiel, 86, formerly of Reliance, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.  A memorial service was held at 2pm, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Chamberlain Episcopal Church.  Burial was at the Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

She was born December 19, 1921, at the family farm northeast of Reliance to William and  Ozitte (King) Lindley.  She attended school in Reliance and graduated at Reliance High School in 1938.

She graduated from the Mitchell College of Business.

On May 14, 1940, she married Donald E. Hamiel.  They farmed and ranched on the home place northeast of Reliance until 1976, when her husband died.  She continued to reside there until she moved to Mitchell in 2001.

She was active in Eastern Star, the South Dakota Cowbelles, Prarie Star, and for many years was a Cub Scouts den mother.  She worked  several years as a Legal Secretary for her brother’s law firm, Brown & Lindley in Chamberlain.  She was a member of the Episcopal Christ Church in Chamberlain and was active in its guild.

She is survived by three sons, Kent, and wife Mildred of Reliance, Noel, and wife Janet, of Mitchell, and Wade and wife Chyree, of Reliance, a sister, Iva Fleming of Mitchell; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a twin brother, Joseph, and brother, John Frank Lindley.

A Memorial Fund has been established.
