Funeral services for Fred H. Monson, 66, Rapid City, SD, were held Thursday, September 4, 1986 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel in Rapid City with the Reverend William O'Connell officiating. Burial was in the Black Hills National Cemetery. He passed away August 31, 1986 at his home.
He was born September 7, 1919 at Reliance to Anna (Mahnke) and Nels Monson. He grew up in Reliance and graduated from Reliance High School. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and returned to Reliance.
Mr. Monson married Donna L. Hickey January 12, 1948 at Lower Brule. They ranched near Oacoma and Chamberlain areas before moving to the Rapid City area in 1956. He was a carpenter until his retirement.
Survivors besides his wife are three sons: Randy, of Leadwood,Kansas; Fred Jr. and Terry, both of Rapid City; three daughters: Gwyneath 'Chicky' Townsend of Sioux Falls, Danette Holzwarth, of Hot Springs, and Geralyn Smiley of Bothell, Washington; four brothers: W.J. (Bill) of Rapid City, Albert, of Reliance; Carl, of Albany, Oregon and Alvin of Mission Hill, SD; four sisters: Emma Gunderson of Bagley, Mn., Laura Stickel of Glen Rock, Wyoming, Lillie Butt of Presho and Mrs. Bertha Brinker of Chamberlain, SD, and 12 grandchildren
