Roger Fletcher - Class Of 1951

Roger Fletcher

G. Roger Fletcher   Feb. 28, 1933 – Jan 31 1997

Gene “Roger” Fletcher, 63, was born Feb. 28, 1933, at Chamberlain to Roy and Elsie Fletcher. He passed away Jan. 31, 1997, at Mc Kennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

He was raised in the Reliance area and attended school there, graduating with the class of 1951. Following high school, Roger attended SDSU and the School of Mines.

After college, he joined the US Air Force, then assisted his father and brother in the family farming operation near Reliance. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1969 and began his employment with Maxim Technologies (Twin Cities Testing) as a welding inspector. Although Roger had other pastimes and hobbies, he deeply enjoyed his work.

Roger was united in marriage to Fern Erickson in Brookings Dec. 17, 1970. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls.

Roger was talented in wood working and wood carving. He had made a baby cradle, hope chest, and several artistic pieces, including people, birds and assorted wildlife figures. He enjoyed giving his work to his children. In his spare time he also enjoyed gardening.

He was a friend to everyone and always thinking of others. Roger was most happy when he could be of some assistance to someone, even if it meant going out of his way. This caring and unselfish attitude was an inspiration to his children. He was very family-orientated and loved to take trips with his family.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Fern, JaAnn Santiago, her husband Simon, San Antonio, Texas; Penny Nance and her husband Lamar, Janice Oldre and her husband Paul, all of Sioux Falls.

Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
