Margery Black Fletcher 1919-1999
Funeral services for Margery M. Fletcher, 79, Reliance, was held Saturday, July, 17 at the United Methodist Church in Reliance with The Reverend Wayne Tieszen officiating. Mrs Fletcher passed away Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at Sunset Valley Haven Nursing Home in Chamberlain.
Margery Mae Black was born near Reliance October 19, 1919 to Edwin and Esther (Creasey) Black. She attended country school and Reliance High School.
February 1, 1938, Margery married Evert Fletcher at Murdo. They lived in the rural Reliance area until 1953 when they moved into Reliance. They owned and operated Fletcher Trading Post in old Lower Brule.
In 1967, Margery became the Director of the Lower Brule Housing Authority, retiring in 1984.
Margery was very active in the community, serving on many church boards and was a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She spent the last 13 years taking care of her husband. The past two years, she and Evert have made their home with daughter Lori, and her husband, Denny Marsh.
Thankful for having shared her life are her husband at home; two sons: Randy of Lennox, and Steve of Renner; four daughters: Marjo Crain of Brookings, Patty Weber of Pasadena, CA., Penny Marsh and Lori Marsh, both of Reliance; brother, Dick Black, Mancelona, MI., sister, Ann Cordry, Farmington, NM, 17 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
Her parents, one infant daughter and two brothers preceded her in death.
Burial will be in The Reliance Cemetery.
