Kathy K. Olds Harvet

After graduation, I married Wayne Peterson and moved to Maryland for one year while he was in the service. We then moved to Coon Rapids and lived there a year. Moved to Outing and have been here since. Wayne died in '79 but thank God we had Sherri (our daughter). After Wayne died I couldn't raise Sherri alone on a bartenders salary, so I went to beauty school, opened a shop in Emily and have been there since. Love my job and love my customers. I met Victor in '81. We have a lot of fun--We fish & hunt together--he's my best friend.

One of my favorite memories from high school is Mr. Ben Lederman teachings. I thought he was such an excellent teacher and there was not a question he asked that I was not prepared to answer. (Loved to learn from him!!) Years later when my daughter was in his class, she had a "not too good grade" from his class so I decided I needed to find out what was happening. When I asked Mr. Lederman if he didn't teach that same way--his reply was"We are all getting older and don't have that kind of enthusiasm".

I can't believe so many years have gone by without seeing any of my classmates since we live so close together! I guess I always knew I didn't want to leave Outing--so what's up with that?

What else do you do in Outing? Clean houses or cabins, cook, waitress, or bartend.

Go to Alaska and fish for Halibut or King Salmon.

Married Wayne on my birthday April 18th 1970. We were married 9 years. Married Victor in 1990.

We usually go fishing or hunting. Mainly just fishing now. We go to Wisconsin every summer for a week and do a bit of salmon fishing. Otherwise it's pretty much Walleyes and crappies or whatever will bite on the hook. We don't really care for Bass fishing, though. It used to be that Bass were so easy to catch and you didn't really want to fish for them and they always tasted "different", but now it's getting so any fish you can catch is acceptable!

Very little travel I'm afraid. We have gone out West to family reuinions (Montana). I guess we'll have to wait until retirement for that!

Over the years I had a best friend in school until she graduated in '68. We spent many days and nights with friends in school and on the streets of Remer. You know--game nights--whatever!! I also had a close friendship with George Fletcher--he was also a part of this group of people who "hit the streets"!

I would not just isolate myself to the few (10 or so I hung with), but I would want to get to know all the people in my class--48?

Everyone to me is interesting--but famous--not so much!! What happens in Outing--stays in Outing

This might be cool--or it might be dumb, but when our son was born, he was born in the back seat of my brothers car on the way to the hospital. The cool part of that is he is alive and well and 21 yrs old. The dumb part is my "mother instinct"--where was it!!??

Live each day as it might be your last! I learned this after Wayne died. Life is short!! You never know when your time is up! The old story--"do unto others..." is how I want to live.
