Coleen Joan Akey, 54, passed away [on May 9, 2003] at her residence in Reno. She was born on November 26, 1948, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Bathurst) Akey.
Ms. Akey had resided in Reno since 1965, having moved from Novato, CA. She worked for the advertising department at the Reno Gazette Journal for several years.
She is survived by her brother Jeff Akey of Iowa; aunt Madelyn Rhodes; her cousins (who were like sisters), Charlotte “Cha” McMaster, and Virginia “Gingi” MacEchern; her beloved Brat the Cat, who she adored; as well as a great group of partiers at the Reno Gazette Journal.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2003 at @PM at O’Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 West Second Street, Reno. Private internment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
