Roger Hale Ashley was born 10/11/1948.  He died in Reno on 05/29/2022.

My brother Roger passed away this past week in Reno, NV due to extensive injuries after a fall. Like me, Roger had no children or a spouse so I am grateful I was able to be with him as he passed. Roger was such a complex man who will be very missed by siblings, nieces, and me, as well as his wide circle of dear friends including: Leonid Pustilnick, Renee Lauderback, and Phil Kimball.

I won’t try to summarize my brother but to say, he was a kind, genuine, brilliant, extremely creative man, as well as a gifted musician. He lived in Reno from age 8 and loved the theater. He was a stagehand at the big shows in Reno and also enjoyed being a “Living History Reenactor”.

I know that Roger also had a dry sense of humor and a very mischievous streak but as his “baby sister,” I didn’t know that side of him as well as his pals.

I am so grateful to Roger’s best friend, Lenny “El Bajo” for walking beside me in this journey of grief and especially for being Roger’s badass opera singer pal for over two decades. 😉

Also, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate Renee Lauderbach as the owner of Mountain Music Parlor for her generous offer to host Roger’s Celebration of Life on June 20th at her business which Roger frequented.
All are welcome to attend starting at 5:00pm but come anytime. Share a story or song or just join us as we remember Roger.

Roger was a wonderful friend in high school and after until I moved out of state. I have some colorful memories from shared time together. He was a terrific punster. I am shocked and sorrowed to hear of his untimely death. Although I lived across the country from Roger, I often thought of that creative, funny soul. Thank you for posting the gentleman's guitar tribute.
