Suzanne Hawkins
No Truer Teacher, Friend, and Daughter of Nevada
September 30, 1948 - November 15, 2010

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”  - Albert Einstein

The “gold standard” of friendship, laughter, commitment, compassion, and passionate living, Suzanne peacefully passed away surrounded by her family.  Without a doubt she made a running leap into the arms of her maker and now is filling the halls of heaven with her zest for life, glorious smile, and contagious laughter.

No truer daughter of Nevada, Suzanne was born and raised in Sparks and Reno, graduating from Reno High.  Suzanne graduated from the University of Nevada Reno in 1970 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.  Suzanne then taught grades K-6 in the Washoe County School District from 1971 to 2003 and was an exemplary teacher who earned the love and respect of her students and colleagues throughout her career.

Suzanne dearly loved and cherished her family, treasured her many friends and was constantly with her beloved, and equally exuberant four-legged companions “Jimmy” and “Ruby”.  Retirement only meant more time for friends, enjoying the outdoors and meeting new people.  Suzanne was involved with many social groups and stayed active with the school district, working at Echo Loder Elementary, and later volunteering at Robert Mitchell Elementary.  She deeply loved children, was constantly being acknowledged by former students; her impact will be felt for many generations yet to come.

Suzanne offers special thanks to all those who have been by her side and helped her in her journey, especially her beloved sister Myrt Hawkins, mother Beaulah Hawkins, Aunt Betty Matheus, friend Gary Lyon, Dr. Shannon Zamboni for her wonderful caring attitude, Kristy for her kindness, Dr. Chen for his expertise, and Dr. Conrath for his honesty.  She is survived by her mother Beaulah Hawkins, sister Myrt, Aunt Mary Black of Ogden, and numerous cousins throughout Idaho and Utah.

In lieu of flowers, Suzanne has asked that donations be made to your special charity, or the Vista Care Hospice located at 625 E. Prater Way #108, Sparks, NV 89434-8963.
