I remember the wonderful lunchtime conversations that John, Tony, Don, I and other friends would have during our Senior year.  We had  bold plans as to what our future might have in store for us.  I lost track of John over the years.  But I remember John to be an outstanding person for all the great attributes he was already showing to all of us in our high school years.  I send condolences to John's family and friends.  Best Regards Dr. Doug

John Dean Hutchinson, Jr., 67, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, died Feb. 11, 2016. He passed away peacefully in Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by his wife and daughters. John was born in Sacramento, California, on April 6, 1948, son of John Dean and Beverlee (Marling) Hutchinson. He graduated from Reno High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Zoology from University of Nevada Reno. John received a full scholarship from the United States Air Force to attend Northwestern University Dental School and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Sciences in 1974. He served active-duty in the Air Force as a dentist for two decades to retire from the armed services as a lieutenant colonel in 1990; upon retirement, he settled with his family in Fort Walton Beach and ran a successful private dental practice for the next 20 years.
John met his future wife, Ann, while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1981, John married the former (Margaret) Ann Gaetjens in Reno, Nevada. They have three daughters.
He was active in his community, church and career: John served as an active band parent for the Choctawhatchee Style Marchers for many years; was active in the Okaloosa Walton Dental Society, and served as treasurer one year; volunteered his dental services free to underprivileged children; worked as a state dental board examiner; and loved spending his time working alongside his wife in the soup kitchen at Trinity United Methodist Church. Later in his life, he was an adjunct professor at Northwest Florida State College.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann; his daughter, Nicole, and her husband, Josh, and granddaughter, Eleanor of Longmont, Colorado; his daughter, Kara, and her partner, Ben, of Yardley, Pennsylvania; and his youngest daughter, Alea, and her husband, Pete, and grandson, Zachary, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. John is also survived by his sisters, Susie Chalfin and Nancy (Bill) Finley of Sparks, Nevada, and their families.
John will be remembered for his devotion to God; his love for his family, animals (including his cats Tink and Link), and the outdoors; his goofy sense of humor; and his kind, loving heart. Visitation will be at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Walton Beach, on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m., with Reverend Sterling Boykin and Reverend Paula Roane presiding, followed by a graveside service at Beal Memorial Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the following organizations: Trinity UMC (memo: soup kitchen) at 403 Racetrack Road Northwest, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547; and American Cancer Society at 99 Eglin Pkwy Northeast, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
