Chuck Manley died suddenly on Tuesday, February 15th in Reno at age 62. He was born on July 7th 1948 to Felix and Jean Manley, moving to Reno in 1953 when his father became the minister of the First Congregational Church, in which Chuck remained active for the rest of his life. He graduated from Reno High School in 1966, married Jackie in 1968, and graduated from University of Nevada, Reno in 1970. Son James was born in December of 1970. As a Conscientious Objector to the Vietnam War, he was assigned alternate service in Kansas City, where daughter Jennifer was born in 1972. He earned an MLS degree and returned to Reno to work at the Washoe County Library in 1973. He served the community through the library until his retirement in 2000 when he was NLA Librarian of the Year. He loved singing both as a prominent voice in the church choir and as the hearty songleader of the Kiwanis Club of Reno. He enjoyed golf and travel and was looking forward to returning to Maui in March. His greatest joy was his family, and he is survived by Jackie, his wife of 42 years, his son James of Baltimore, his daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Jeff Bennett, and grand-daughters Samantha and Allison, all of Reno. He is also survived by brother David and his wife Kathy, brother Jim and wife Judy, and sister Doris. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, February 21 at the First Congregational Church of Reno at 627 Sunnyside Drive with a celebration of life to follow. Donations may be made in his memory to the church.
