On September 30, 2021, lifetime Reno resident Joseph Carl Maskaly went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born to George and Shirlee Maskaly on March 15, 1948, at Washoe Medical Center (currently known as Renown Hospital). As a seven-month premie, he not only survived but thrived. He attended Mary S. Dotten and Elmcrest elementary schools, Central Junior High, and graduated from Reno High School in 1966. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps from 1966 through 1972.
Joe was a longtime member of the Carpenters’ Union specializing in sheetrock and suspending ceilings. He was also an insreucor for Job Corps and later had his own handyman business doing remodels and additions. In his spare time, he loved to water ski, wake board, kayak, snow ski, snowmobile, fish, hunt, horseback ride, and golf. He did live for brief periods of time in Lake Tahoe, Grass Valley, California, and Portland, Oregon, but always returning to the Reno/Sparks area. At the time of his death he was residing in the Rancho Haven Community of Reno where he owned an 11 acre ranch.
He is survived by his wife Christine, his two daughters, Dawn Hutson (husband Steve) and Amelia Wyman (husband Jason) from his previous marriage to Donna Ghisletta; four grandchildren, Skyler and Camerson Wyman, and Collin and Malaina Hutson, two brothers, George and Nick Maskaly, and their families.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the River Christian Church at 10475 Fourth Street, Reno, NV on Saturday, November 6th at 10:00 am.
