Barbara Lynn Mize

Barbara Lynn Sorenson Mize passed from this life into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 10, 2014. Her faith, the love of her husband Bill Mize and the love of the rest of her family and many friends sustained her for the year since her diagnosis of brain cancer. Barbara lived life well before her illness, but especially during the last year. Her thoughts and concerns were mostly for others. Barbara always deflected conversation from herself. She was an encourager and affirmer of everyone in her life. Barbara loved the outdoors. She enjoyed bicycling, skiing and walking. She also was always in the middle of a book.

Barbara was born in Denver, Colorado to James and Margaret Sorenson on September 8, 1948. Her family moved to Reno in 1958 where she attended local schools. Barbara graduated from Reno HS in 1966. She earned an AA degree in Dental Assisting and went on to earn a degree in English from San Diego State University. She worked in several dental offices before becoming Office Coordinator for Covenant Presbyterian Church in 1997. Her work at Covenant PC endeared her to everyone because of her sincere interest in and care for members.

Barbara is survived by her husband Bill Mize, their daughter Jennifer Huff (Brian) and grandchildren Madelynn, Donovan, Benjamin, Annelise, and Jonathan; her stepson Justin Mize (Heidi) and grand¬children Mitchell, Caleb, Maci, Matheu, Abigail, and William; her brother Jack McGuire (Rosemary), sister Kay Blakely (Mike), brothers Mike Sorenson (Nancy), and Ralph Sorenson; also numerous nephews and nieces.

Barbara's family is grateful to St. Mary's Hospice for their loving care of her in the last weeks of her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 3:00 pm.
