Dennis died on Dec. 26, 1999, due to congestive heart failure. He attended both the University of Texas at Austin and Stephen F Austin. He was survived by his wife, Carole, and a son, Douglas. He is buried in Restland Cemetery.
Dennis was one of my best fiends in RHS, especially in my jr. high years when I didn't know many people. Although he could be moody at times, he was a pretty fun guy to be around. I saw Dennis at our 30th reunion and was saddened to hear of his death since then.
Some of his football teammates may remember the time we were in the locker room getting dressed for a practice. Dennis put on his hip pads and instantly began to dance and hop around like a wild man. Without his knowing it, a scorpion was resting on the inside of his pads and began stinging him like crazy. All of us were laughing so hard, no one could come to his aid. He finally managed to get the pads off and found the scorpion.
I remember the scorpion incident well. It was, indeed, hilarious. One of my fondest memories of Dennis was our walking together, late at night, in Times Square in Manhattan. We had ditched our adult handlers on a Key Club trip to the East Coast and were on the prowl, when a man stepped out of an alley and offered us exactly what we had been telling each other we were looking for. Turned out that our "ideas" were bolder than we were, because we demurlely declined the offer and slunk back to our hotel.
Dennis died from complications of diabetes about 10 years ago (not sure of exact date). Such a tragic death at a relatively young age. His son Doug and my son Jeff were classmates at Pearce High School and Texas A&M at College Station. Doug was his only child and I believe he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.
I had a hard time finally reading about Dennis's death. He was a sweet person to me and a boyfriend in Jr. High.He would walk over to my house and we would play ''kissie face''.I have special memories of the colone he wore!!!!! It smelled great!!!! God bless you Dennis---Leilani
I had the opportunity to visit with Dennis and his family in the late 70's. It was an accidental meeting in Little Rock. After we figured out why we looked familiar to each other, we had a good laugh and a good visit. He brought his family to meet me the next day. I always liked Dennis in school and found him even more relaxed and fun when we had those two days of visiting in the 70's. I am so sorry to find out about his death.
