Comments:
I graduated from Va Tech in 1984 with a BS in Accounting and also became certified to teach Math (6-12), just in case (: I worked in the Accounting field for 8 years.
I began teaching Math at Matoaca High School in the early 1990's. I then transferred to Powhatan High School in 1996.
I married Paul Hylton (Meadowbrook 1978) in 1995. We (my husband, myself, our dads and friends) built a log cabin in Cumberland County on 39 acres. We lived with my parents in Mill Quarter (on the lake in Powhatan) for the two years that it took to build. We love living in the country!
I have a step-son, Joshua, who will be 22 in October. He was married to Holly last July. They went to Liberty University and live in Lynchburg. His major is graphic design.
We also have a beautiful, healthy, 14 year old yellow lab named Chessea. She is awesome!! We also have 7 beagles, used for rabbit hunting by Paul and Michael.
I took a leave of absence from teaching high school when Michael was born in August of 1999. He is almost 10 years old now and loves sports and the outdoors. He has been riding 4 wheelers since he was 2, has played ball since he was 5, has been snow skiing since he was 6, and has been hunting since he was 3. They all tell me that I can't deny him! Not sure if that's a good or bad thing...
I ran into Karen Marsh and Vince Henderson in the JW ER before Michael was a year old! Karen was a nurse and I think Vince had been "attacked" by his girlfriend's cat (?).
Anyway, I went back as a substitute and then a first grade and kindergarten instructional assistant in Powhatan, while also working on my master's degree in reading. I graduated from Longwood University in 5/2005 with honors. I am now a Reading Specialist and teach kindergarten at Powhatan Elementary ( a huge change from high school, but I love it!!). I also belong to Alpha Delta Kappa, an international educator's sorority. I have taught Selina's niece and nephew (small world!) as well as several children of the students that I taught at Powhatan High School (that will make you feel old!).
I love spending time with family and friends, the outdoors and snow skiing. We spend most of our summer time at Gwynn's Island, on the Chesapeake Bay (remember Scott Gore (1981)? his family also has a place on the island AND he is my dentist!). We love boating, fishing, jet skiing, and kayaking. It's a nice rest after a year with "little people."
We also belong to May Memorial Baptist Church in Powhatan.
My nephew, Chris, graduated from WVU in May. His major is Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences. My niece will be a senior at Monacan High School next year. She is an awesome softball pitcher and has had a scholarship to Rutgers since her sophomore year to play softball! She also makes straight A's, is blond haired and blue eyed, and is a great kid! Her name is Megan Williams. I really feel old when my brother, almost 4 years younger that myself, has kids this old and mine is just turning 10. (:
I guess that is my life since 1980, at least the better part of it. I hope this finds all of you well! Hope to see everyone soon! Take care!
