Did you know, the first Glen Allen opened in the home of Elizabeth Holladay in 1886 near what is the current intersection of Mountain Rd. and Old Mountain Rd? The Old Washington Highway site opened in 1911 as the third location for the school serving grades 1-7 ; Cost $10,000.00.
Glen Allen School 8th grade was added in 1919, 9th in 1920, 10th in 1923 and 11th in 1925. First graduation class was 1925 10 students.
In the 1920's the Panther became the mascot. In 1927 the first yearbook was produced and named The Panthian.
In 1942 Glen Allen was the only high school in the western part of the county. Spring 1951 was the last graduating class from Glen Allen.
Fall of 1951 Hermitage High School was opened, and Glen Allen became an elementary school with grades 1-7.
And that, fellow classmates, is how Hermitage began!
Hermitage means “a retreat, a safe haven,” and the name followed the school in 1972 to its new location on Hungary Spring Road, where it still sits today.
