ANNOUNCEMENTS

I am very sad to tell you that Emily Kelso Hunt died on February 14. Really, Betsy Blair was her closest friend in high school and one of Emily's forever friends, but I'm not sure Betsy gets on this site. So, I am being presumptuous and announcing this.

Anyone who knew Emily knew how kind-hearted and sweet she was, not to mention how incredibly talented she was. And, of course, she was a knock-out beauty. Emily created amazing artworks. She taught art at a Montessori school outside of Charlottesville for, I believe, most of her adult life. She loved her husband Bruce dearly, who died about ten years ago. And she has a beautiful, talented, successful daughter, Heddy, who lives in Queens.

I am grateful that Emily was part of my life for a while. When we were in our first & second years at UVA, we hung out quite a bit and always had a great time. She was FUN!!! We had a wonderful, long conversation last fall, and she was in good spirits. The two Betsys (the other was her friend Betsy who she met at UVA) who were dear to her were so very lucky to have her as a close friend. Betsy Blair, if you read this and I have gotten anything wrong, please correct me.

I don't know the exact cause of her death. I'm not sure, but to my knowledge, there is no funeral being planned--instead, I believe her daughter will be organizing a memorial sometime this summer, TBA.

WEBSITE SECURITY

There have been some questions from classmates about website security. FYI - all the pages on the site are locked, and limited to registered users only. You must have a profile page and sign in credentials to gain access. This includes the Missing Classmates page, which now can only be accessed for a new registrant by messaging Dan directly for verification and access. In addition, there is a setting on your individual profile page that you can check titled Block Profile Visibility. By checking this, you will be protected from public search for your profile. Finally, make sure to Log Out from the site when you are finished. It does not log out automatically, but does time out after a while. Joanne M

Class of 1972 Scholarship Fund

I have a couple of exciting updates about the Class of 1972 Scholarship Fund I want you to know about.

Firstly, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous alum, all donations made to the Class of 1972 Scholarship Fund are now being matched up to a total of $5,000.  What a great way to increase our giving and grow our fund.

Secondly, we now have an additional way to give.  You can donate by credit card by going to the Scolarship page on our website.  A credit card form is on the left side of the home page, “Donate to the Class of 72 Scholarship Fund”.  Checks are still the better way to contribute as credit card fees are deducted from your gift.  But still,  all money counts.

Look for the Honor Roll of Donors on the donation page.

So keep on giving and look for future updates on money we raise.

Hey everyone, I had connected with Eddie (Win) Brooks a few months ago while searching for classmates.  He is an author and a musician these days, living in Mount Airy, MD.  He sent me a copy of one of his books - Double Knots.  I don't do a whole lot of reading, but I read the book on a recent flight to Seattle, and thoroughly enjoyed it - could not put it down.  It is set in our old neighborhood, and school, although the name of the school has changed.  It really took me back in time.  I finished it almost a week ago and still can't get some of the stories out of my mind.  Kind of makes you wonder who some of his charcters are reincarnated from (I think I know some of them).  It's second in a series of three books - "Sam Fosdick Series" (google or search that on Amazon).  I recommend it to anyone who wants to conjure up some memories of people and places of old.  Eddie did not ask or suggests I post this, but I thought you all should know.  You can find it here on Amazon, for about $13.
