Bassett Country Club for me. Date does not matter.

How much extra is the bartender? Are we allowed to hire a DJ for dancing??

02/12/09 07:57 AM #75

Michelle George (Jamison)

I didn't ask about the Bartender cause they can do "set ups" where we bring our own and they provide mixers and we can do our own drinks. But i will check on the bartender price today. And yes we can hire a DJ for dancing.

I think the least expensive idea would be best, so if bassett is less expensive it gets my vote. I only say that because with the economy so bad if we pick somewhere more expensive than not as many will come if they can't afford it. I helped plan my hubby's class reunion last year and I think Matt's idea of a whole weekend is good because that is typical what they do with calss reunions anyways. Usually you have a dance/dinner for the adults, then a picnic or something for everyone to come and bring thier families. A less formal event. For example they went for dinner and drinks on Friday after thier homecoming game, then on Saturday they had a picninc at the city park and had hamburgers, hotdogs, fruit trays, veggie trays, and one of the ladies husbands was a dj so he dj the music. It was nice because everyone had a more laid back time, and those with children could bring them and the children could play. Last year the class of 98 kinda of did the same thing. I am not saying we should be exactly everyone else, but a whole weekend is typical the routine. My mom and husbands mother said it was the same way when they had thiers, and I think it would be nice to have something like a family day. Like I said I think we should totally think anout keeping it affordable for everyone. I am avialable to help with whatever. The city park was 30 dollars to rent last year. Also I know some good Dj, and can check prices on that as well. I may even be able to swing for nothing or close to it. I don't care either way where it is at, I vote for the least expensive one so that more people will have a chance to come.

On Firday after the game those in the class that wanted to met at Wild Mags, who has a great DJ and the prices on food and drinks are not bad either. Also they are expanding the inside and adding another bar and more seating. It is alot better now than when it was duffers because someone new owns it. I could reserve seats there if anyone wanted to meet there? Then saturday they had thier picnic and dutch inn that night. So if anyone would like to go out and meet up that night let me know and I can reserve tables there or dutch inn, altough the DJ at Wild Mags is 10 times better or we could do like Matt said and reserve the fire mans cabin or something My number should be posted on the board if anyone wants to call or needs help. Since I still live in Martinsville and dont work right now I have some time to spare as far as getting things done. So please call if anyone needs anything.

Oh also, you don not have to pay to reserve seats at Wild Mags, it is free, but you do have to be on time within reason, they will not hold your table if your not, and they are open to the public so if you get there like 2 hours late there is a possiblity you may have to stand in line if they are packed, and well the usually are. Dutch inn charges cover to thier lounge, Wild Mags does not. Altough Wild Mags is open to the public we had a blast there last year. My hubby and I go up there to hang with friends when we are lucky enough to have a babysitter and well I really like it. Ohh, and if we do bassett I can help bartend and mix drinks. I was a bartender at Dutch Inn for a while, and I still remember how to make several and what I dont, I can get the receipes off the internet and read them or make note cards to bring so if someone wants to know what is in thier mixed drink, they will know. If you need help let me know. I dont care about the date, but would like a whole weekend:)

Just wanted to take a second to say that I hope my suggestions about wild mags, or the city park did not come across as stepping on anyone's toes about the reunion. I was just tyring to give some suggetions that I and others from our class have come up with. I only want to help and hope it did not come across as anything else. I was typing so fast I think I left out some words, maybe even whole phrases. LOL Anyways I vote for Bassett, but please let me know if you need any help. I had volunteered for the planning committee and I am more than happy to help with anything needed.

Didn't need to wait until Monday cause of lots of votes. THE DATE IS AUG 22nd. Which was for several reason one reason to mention is for parents that have children in school. There is more to come but I thought I would give the place and date for those that need to ask off for it in advance. Again, keep a check for further information.
