After great school experiences at Oak Grove ES, Hidden Valley Intermediate, Cave Spring JR High, and Cave Spring High School, I attended Va Tech. What a fabulous campus and community to be a part of.... I am so proud to be a Hokie. I met my husband Michael at VT. We have been married for 26 years. We traveled quite a bit during the first 6 years of marriage due to his job--playing minor league baseball (up to AAA and a winter in Dominican Republic) with the St Louis Cardinals. We did realize there was life after baseball. We settled in Va Beach for 8 years where I taught school in Norfolk, VA. My inner city school experiences were most rewarding. We moved to Colorado Springs in 1994. I started school again and received my masters degree from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and then pursued my principal license degree (yes, another 30 hours of college) from the University of Phoenix. After 5 years in the classroom teaching 2nd and 3rd grade and serving as the literacy coach, I served in the central office of our school district as the Literacy Facilitator K-12 and Professional Development Coordinator. This past year, I decided I needed a dose of kids and became an assistant principal. There is nothing better than watching kids learn. My days are never, ever dull!! Michael and I have 2 wonderful daughters, Jess 22 and Jill 19. It has been such a blessing to have them in our lives. Michael and I cherish our time with them. They are truly a gift.
Wow!! There are so many....and which ones to share? "Gain time"-trying to sneak past Mrs Bostian to catch a few rays of sunshine in the pole vault pit during a mod or two. "Lunch time"-remember getting 10 cents per tray if you took it back to the dish washer line? Loved the extra bit of change...30 years ago that went for many sodas from the smoke-filled teacher's lounge. "Drivers Ed"-thank goodness Mr. Hyatt had a brake on the passenger side. The drives on Bent Mtn were pretty intense. "Cow Hill"-loved those snow days...but the walk from Oak Grove to Cow Hill was ridiculous, but we did it! "Party times"--What were we thinking? "Football games"--loved the school spirit. We could have initiated the show Friday Night Lights...what great times!! Can't wait to visit with you all! See you Sept 20.
