Cathy was my cousin and although we were nearly the same age, she always felt like my older, more mature cousin, by more then the few months that separated us.
We were close throughout our childhood and after high school, she married her love Joe Malecka. We saw each other over the years at family functions and she was always the best to talk with because of her great attitude and infectious laugh.
She lived life to the absolute fullest each and every day even as she could no longer fight off the effects of the cancer that took her life and broke our hearts.
I spoke at her funeral and talked with Kathleen Moore who came because of her long standing friendship.
I will always think of Cathy and our special relationship as first cousins.

My family built a home next to the Milfords in 1956. How excited I was to discover that our neighbors had a daughter my age. Cathy and I played together every day, climbing trees, fishing at Twin Lake, pestering the neighborhood boys-Ricky Lund, Billy Kaehn, and Larry Stay. In September, we entered 5th grade (different classes) at the brand new Northport School. As we grew older, we took classes to become certified babysitters, went to see every new Debbie Reynolds movie at the Terrace or Camden Theatre, enjoyed outings with our families to Big Island and Excelsior Amusement Park.
Cathy was a very sweet and beautiful person and a wonderful friend--she always reminded me of Sandra Dee.
