Great reunion weekend
Posted Monday, August 12, 2013 07:48 PM

Our 55th reunion is now over and I'm already missing everyone.  Friday night was great and it seemed like everyone had a good time.  We loved the food and the setting was charming.  It was so nice to have Rick & Judy Palmgren join us.  They were at my table and what a nice couple. Also Ann Sawyer came in from Florida and she was also at my table along with Karen & Don Seed.  Ann and I were good friends in our senior year.

The breakfast on Sunday was crazy.  We had Roger Knapp, Mike Hart, Rodger Rewold and Doug Engler all in the kitchen making the food in full white chef attire.  Loved their tall white hats. Serving was Joanne Fifield, Karen & Don Seed and myself.  Trying to find everything quickly was a little challenge as it was like being in someone else's kitchen.

Sunday after Rock N Rods we all met at Limelight and spent four hours together.  We were on the outside deck over looking the Paint Creek River and the weather was perfect.  Tom Stanley was in rare form and kept us laughing with his stories.  I want to personally thank the committee I was part of as we all worked together to make sure all of you had a good weekend.  It was a great group to work with and we accomplished what we set out to do.  See you all at the next reunion.

I agree!  This was just too much fun!  Loved seeing everyone, the Silent Auction was a fun addition, participants gave us a "piece of who they are today".

Live life to the fullest,

We always knew that we (the class of '58) was special, and we've proved it one more time.  Carole wouldn't let us do otherwise!

Seriously, this was a stupendous reunion -- one that is going to be especially difficult to explain to a younger generation that hasn't just forgotten, has never known what it was to be in a school where the various graduating classes were like extended families.  And we even had our patriarch there!!!  God bless Ray Lawson!

Carole and her (very able) committee saw to it that this was superbly organized, giving all who showed up ample chance just to enjoy EACH OTHER -- as opposed to being organized to a point where there was no time for us just to be people.

We don't really age, do we?  Whatever we were, we just get more so!

All I can say is WOW, wow.  What a great Reunion.  I have to say I was a little apprehensive as I had not been back for 50 years, but loved and took in every minute I was with these folks.  Everyone was so welcoming even those I didn't know very well having only been at RHS for my senior year.  (I came from the Royal Oak Kimball).

The Friday night event was so nice and the food was outstanding.  Oh my, that dessert was to die for.

Saturday's informal night also was great.  We had a ton of laughs talking about all our memories of the past and hearing what others are doing with their lives.

And then the final touch was at Red Knapp's which sure did bring back lots of memories.  Thanks guys, you did a great job and, the service can't be beat.  I had not sat down for one minute and my food was in front of me.  Wish all restaurants were like that.

Carole, thank you for the personal touch that I know you gave everyone and Dawn, thanks too for joining us for lunch.  That was also very special to me.

Carole and the committee did not miss one thing.  It was all done to perfection and I thank each and everyone of you.  Can't wait to get the pictures that I will treasure forever.

Great reunion weekend

Having been home for a little over a week now I figured it was time to comment on our little 55th get together.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for treating my Utica Chieftain bride like one of us, she really felt like she was a part of what was going on, did not feel like an outsider at all.

Secondly, I would like to thank all of the attendees to Saturday's informal function for joining Donna and I for our 50th wedding anniversary. I know we did not tell any one before hand because we like things low key, but all of you made the evening special for us.

Thanks to all of the various committee members for all of the work that went into the planning. You deserve a lot of credit.

I agree with the comments above, that fridays Dinner was very good and the event just seemed to be planned well. The setting was excellent and the activities were also a good choice.

We did take advantage of the time off on Saturday morning to drive around and look at what used to be our normal surroundings and the places that were special to us, though a lot has changed, it still brought back many fine memories. In a way I am ready to return to Michigan, i.e. move back to the familiar surroundings.

Many thanks to Roger Knapp for the Sunday morning breakfast.  It really was a treat and your staff was pretty darn good too; from the "Boss" to the "cranky waitress". Every one of the crew deserves a pat on the back and it made a special occasion even better.

And of course the Sunday wind down setting was superb. The food choices were good and even though we were "late again."  It was a great occasion.  It must have been as Donna and I closed it out like the other three events and it's not often that we stay that long.

Also, like Ann's comment above, I had not been able to attend for 50 years and only made the first one and this one.  I was not sure of what to expect when we did get there. It's just that everybody was so darn nice.  They were so interested in what we were doing and how we were doing, that made it one of the best events that I have had the pleasure of being part of.

I am looking forward to our special 58th reunion for the great class of '58, the 60th, and many more.

The DVD with the pictures came today and all were so superb, but Donna and I need to sit down and put names to faces before we develop CRS and can't put the correct names on anyone.

And last but not least, the car show, which I would like to think was put on just for our class... It was a very good event and added to the fun of the weekend. ( I know it was just a coincidence, but the timing was right and to have two of our classmates entered in it made it even better. )

Also, to have two of my best friends there, Larry Smielewski and Myron "Bud" McIntyre, made it a great weekend. What more can I say ... Wow or maybe a double Wow!  I'll bet it will be hard to top this one.

Until we meet again or I make another posting,

Fred  "Darn, it's miserably hot down here"  Kuck

We were all so happy that you made it to the reunion.  And you're right, we were all interested in each class mate that came a distance or close by.  As we age I believe we are not taking life for granted but enjoying as much as we can before our time runs out.  We will again do our best to make the next one a fun event.  So happy to hear that you will be back with us in three years.

Continue enjoying your retirment and praise God for your blessings.  I know I do.

Hugs,

Dawn (Doran) Taylor
