Marilyn (Lyn) Baker (Jackson)

Unfortunately Lyn and Bob are home in RH moving furniture and years of stuff to get new wood floors installed next week.  Would much rather be in Maggie.

Though that is mighty hard work, at least it is quieter.  Imagine the traffic up there this weekend, plus the VT football game down the road in Bristol.  Don't pull you back out!

I did not make the bike rally at Maggie Valley, I had a Boy Scout fund raising event this weekend for my Troop. Would love to be riding up there.

You're a good man, Richard!  Hope you raised lots of money.

We raised $10K, target was $12.5K. We will keep at it. We do this twice a year.

Yep Kay, It's only a dayride for me about 4hrs r/t. We almost didn't go as we had only been home from Sturgis a short while. Funny thing is, we will be back at MV next weekend as that is the annual CVO GTG. There will be about 100 CVO Harleys meeting there. We usually fill 3 small family motels. A shot of me & Jane on "The Tail of the Dragon"

I guess half the fun of the Maggie Valley rally is getting there, riding "the dragon".  I really don't have a clue, but I imagined it to be the road u ride to get there.  It looks twisty ---and for godness sake, who took the picture?  Kyle, riding behind you on his bike?  That in itself is scary!  What is CVO-GTG?  Brother Doug was up there this weekend, but they left the bikes home. They have a camp site within walking distance to the the fairgrounds and walked over. Strange, I haven't heard from him since Friday. He's probably still there.

Richard, what are ya'll raising money for?

CVO is just a decked out Harley....Custom Vehicle Operations. And GTG simply stands for Get-To-Gether. Just a fun time with old friends with like minds. We have about 3 a year, although I don't make them all. Good Times!! The Dragon is so popular that they have people that set up and shoot pics with the hopes of folks buying them......and lots of people do. Just google Tail of the Dragon photos.

Thanks Kay. I'll have some photos to post soon. It has been so hot this summer I have not been taking many shots. But I did get a few last week and have them just about ready to post.

Though Kay might like to see

I found this picture when going through some of my Dad's old stuff. On the back was Winthrop Training School, Track Team 1921. Have know idea why he had it as he was not born until 1922.

Thanks Jimmy! Could it be your grandpa? or maybe your mom's father? Did you know anyone from Liberty SC?  Maybe your dad just liked winners! Maybe some our WTS classmates could shine some light on this......George, Herbie, Clay, Rufus, Richy....anyone?  Strangely, the two guys from the left may resemble the Vick family. i keep looking at #2.

Girlie,

You will be less that 50 miles to Deadwood and you have to go to that wild west town...Wild Bill Hickcock and Calamity Jane territory.  It has a lot of history.  It is also like a mini Vegas so be prepared for all the gambling halls and casinos where $1000 bets hit the tables there.  It is a step back in time.  It is growing in popularity and has all sorts of things to do.  I had a blast there.  Even got my old timey photo done there in one of the saloon girl costumes and gave it to my husband (who did not go with me to the badlands on that trip).

Cute..cute. You can get a poster made out there too.  They put me in a jail in stripes out there one time in Cripple Creek.

It would be such a fun trip.

Yes Becky, been there lots. Near Rushmore make sure you drive Wildlife Loop Rd, Iron Mountain Rd and Needles Hwy which are all close. Spearfish Canyon is a great drive also. I wouldn't waste my time(or money) on going to Crazy Horse Monument as it hasn't changed in about 10yrs since the man that was building it died. His family was going to finish it, but really turned it into a tourist trap and have done very little work. I also would take the short trip to Sundance.......not as good as Deadwood but lots of history. Don't know how much time you are going to have, Yellowstone is about 450mi SW. You can pick up flyers that have directions to all the places I mentioned. Custers Battlefield is very interesting, nothing you were taught in school is true. It is about 250mi NW. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks for telling us, Richy.  I remember him fondly. If not mistaken, wasn't he living in Virginia near Robert?
