Bob and I enjoy antique shopping, traveling, rodeos, and reading (my favorite authors for me, Bill O'Reilly WWII books for Bob). Visiting our mountain cabin in Maggie Valley has always been my place for peace and rest.

Lyn, it looks like you and Bob are enjoying life to its fullest! Thanks for sharing. Have a great 4th.

Donnie Mussman

Just returned from a 16 day cruise/train trip from Vancouver BC to Fairbanks Alaska. Wonderful experience. On the 4th we always take our boat. to North inlet , which is just out of Winyah bay .in Georgetown. An uninhabited island where many friends  and locals go to party. A pristine inlet where we fish, shrimp, and gather oysters! Happy 4th to everyone!  Donnie and Kathy Mussman

I think I want to go with Donnie. Seriously, nothing is as usual with us these days. About half of my children and grandchildren are gathering at our daughter, Leslie Blackwood and her husband Andy’s, home for swimming, playing with the grands and great Grandchildren. There will be 3 different types of dead animals on the grill, beans, sweet potato and green salad will round out the meal. Music.... gymnastics and various forms of dancing by the children. Then the teacher comes out in Me with a lesson on the Declaration of Independence. They actually do listen. I pray all of you are blessed with a great Independence Day.

Donnie, welcome home and happy 4th to you and Kathy. I took my first cruise in 2014 which included Alaska. What a WOW experience. David you are like my husband, Russell, at Christmas when he insists on telling a Christmas story passed down through his family. It is a challenge as everyone’s attention span these days is short. Happy 4th to you both.

Deanna (Dee) Ratterree (Nobles)

My husband and I love to travel. Last summer we went to Europe for the second time and was gone for 3 weeks.  We toured London again (which we loved) and then to Ireland, and Scotland. Beautiful places.  We also love the beach!  We keep a camper at Ocean Lakes and owned a share on a condo with friends at Wild Dunes.  Since I retired I love being lazy and doing what I want to.

Well Becky, you nailed that one!! Not that it was a hard guess. But lately it's been to HOT, so tomorrow we will cruise Lake Norman (actually boat dodging) in the pontoon. Hope everyone has a great 4th and feel free to join me in Sturgis the 1st week of Aug!!!!

Dee, you are not lazy, just like me you are merely focused on relaxing at your own pace. Leisure travel is somewhat like work. You have to be organized, do research, plan ahead, commit to a budget and manage money, have a medical and emergency back up plan, communicate and diplomatically deal with all sorts of people, etc. The irony is that it is not work, it is fun.

Jimmy, I am impressed especially if you ride your Harley to Sturgis. I am happy to say I have been to Sturgis last year visiting North and South Dakota. It was a cool experience seeing Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills.

Happy trails to you and to you Dee. I am going to Branson, Mo. in October.

Lynn and I and one of our sons, Chris, his wife, Sue, and two of our granddaughters are at Litchfield By The Sea for the week.  Weather permitting, we plan to go to the beach tonight to watch the fireworks along the coast from Garden City to Pawleys Island.

Looks like eighty degree weather in Pawley's, Dennis. Enjoy your day! Heard on the news that drones may replace fireworks in some drought-stricken states out west. Not sure how all that works but interesting nonethless.

Becky & all

While I would like to say that I still ride to Sturgis, I haven't since 2014. 1671 mi is more than I want not to mention I HATE interstates. Last year we did take a long day trip of about 850 mi. Left Sturgis at 6am went to the Little Big Horn, across Beartooth Pass into Cody, to Worland, Wy to Gillette Wy and back to Sturgis Arriving at 3am the next day. Don't need to say I was tired!! 2 of us in 70's, 2 in 60's, and 2 in 50's. Times like that with my Son & friends cannot be explained.

Let's hear it for the boys!  I'm surprised and impressed we have so many active bikers in our class.  If I understand right, Sturgis is the ultimate biker's destination.  Also, so happy to see so many of you are enjoying your retirement years.  Our 4th was spent at Oak Island with friends and family, hot dogs, hamburgers and brats (as in meat, not relatives).  No fireworks at OI this year, they are rebuilding the pier where they had the fireworks in years past. We had a ring-side seat from our front porch, but zilch this year. So, it was just another wonderful day at the beach.

Of interest to some, my nephew just purchased Simmie Yonce's beach house at Oak Island.  The market had become so saturated that he had missed several opportunities in the past year to make offers on houses. He saw this on line and made an offer site unseen. The interesting part was he was telling me about the previous owner being from RH, retired to OI and suddenly died. I knew exactly who he was talking about.  I told him how Simmie used to work on his grand-dad's cars and his uncle's too, and how Simmie used to let my brother watch him make repairs so he could learn some things. Since they moved in, we are realizing what a talented and extremely gifted man Simmie was, and he had friends all over OI.  The neighbor told us he was like an ant and never quit moving and was always doing something constructive. Rest in Peace, Simmie!

Bob Finley

A big hello to all you ole Bearcats! I recently discovered the website and look forward to communicating with each of you on a regular basis. I said recently that I could not believe so many have passed away. My brother Doug Finley, called me yesterday and said that another of our Bearcat family Vernon Snipes had died due to a trucking accident. Vernon's brother shared this with him. I do not know all the details but He was one of the most likeable guys you would ever want to meet. Last time I saw him he worked for Ronnie Hargett who was later killed in a plane crash. I liked Ronnie and Vernon both and sad to just now find this out after all these years. My heart and prayers go out to their families.

Thanks Becky for the info. All my pictures are being used by gardeners who needed a scarecrow. Hope to have something up soon. Will turn the big 70 tomorrow. I thought Bearcats never age.
