One that I like but really is my favorite toast is " May the best of your past be the worst of your future ".

Here's a couple that 'should' hit home:

"I thought growing old would take longer".

"How many more of these THIN MINTS do I have to eat before I start seeing results?

"I knew I was doing a lot of walking but just recently discovered most of it was to the bathroom".

"Sometimes the first step toward forgiveness is realizing the other person was born an idiot."

An Irish BlessingMay the road rise up to meet youMay the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Thank You David for posting the Irish Blessing!  I had not heard it for almost 10 years, but my dearest friend from Kilarney must have used it a 1000 times before, during, & after golf matches played together for over 40 years....  We lost Dennis Dempsey in 2009 to cancer.  His Mother owned a B&B in Kilarney until past her 95th birthday.  Thank you so mch for bringing those memories back to life!

A very close friend, John J. Kilcummings, was born in Virginia and the family moved back to County Cork Ireland when he was about 5 years old. When he reached the age of 17 in 1944, he made his way back to the U.S. to join the Navy. He served in WWII, Korea, Cuban missle Crisis, Vietnam and the 73 war in the middle east. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 30 years. He shared the Irish Blessing with us every time we parted ways. I got the news of his death when I was in Scotland in November 1979. I've said "see ya later" tp a lot of shipmates in these last 30 years. AND classmates.

Charles, we probably share some common ancestry from County Cork

We can't take a road trip to Ireland and I'm not sure about a cruise ship and that leaves the worst option, fly. Seats are too small and I can't sit in one place that long with a bad back and bad right knee. Maybe one of you retired airline folks could get us in first class with bunk beds and a day in the spa upon arrival.

David,

As a former supervisor and airline flight attendant for 21 years, I can tell you today employee flying is not the same as it was years ago. I am referring to before deregulation in particular. Today planes are full due to fewer aircraft and the seats offer no elbow room and knee room is non existent. Even though I have some reduced fare, standby airline privileges now that were negotiated when Eastern folded, I typically go full fare to ensure I get where I am going. I recall in the 70's I was able to fly round trp to Israel for $100!.

Thank you Becky. After my last experience flying I think we will stick to POV’s, trains and ships. When I was on active duty we would catch HOPS on military flights. Sometimes they were a little Spartan by the airline standards. Thank you again.

Ireland is such a beautiful country. We enjoyed our visit so much!  My advice is to take a late flight and one ambien and you will be there before you know it!

But Dee, if I take a pill, I may miss something! Have not visited Ireland yet. Stopped in Shannon once on the way back home but did not get off the plane. Would that count if it was on my bucket list???

No, I sorry it does not!  You need to see the beautiful hills, valleys, and green, green valleys.  I hope you are doing great.

Message from Laurena Hutto-Taylor:

I wanted to thank all those who sent condolences for the loss of my only child, Michael Shawn Marthers, born March 27, 1975, passed away January 26, 2019.  Michael was born and raised in Rock Hill, and graduated from our beloved Rock Hill High School.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.  We know we will see him again one day.

All,

Susan Wall Bates messaged and asks for prayers for Rocky. He fell last week at his home and cracked the C7 vertebrae which means he broke his neck. He had a three hour surgery and they put 7 screws and 4 rods in his back. He is in a lot of pain but is a good patient. He doesn't complain. Susan is asking for healing prayers for Rocky as his recovery will be a long process.

03/06/19 01:33 PM #1291

Laurena Hutto (Taylor)

Susan, together we have the power of those prayers, and the hearts and words to pray for a full recovery and the ease of pain we know he is having with this injury.  Faith is from the Lord who has the power, and you are strong and so am I, so we pray. Amen
