Do any of you remember the Kappa Fraternity, meaning Un Kap A 5th (liquor)?? Was in touch with Dicki Shaw this week & reminised about dances & parties they had @ McBride Hall @ Winthrop.  The following is an excerpt from our conversation:

Back in the 60's with the Drifters, Shirelles, Dixie Cups, Major Lance, Maurice Williams, etc.  (Still can't figure how we pulled it all off).back in the 60's with the Drifters, Shirelles, Dixie Cups, Major Lance, Maurice Williams, etc.  (Still can't figure how we pulled it all off).

Richard Fiendal & Elliott Wheeler had afternoon & Saturday radio shows on WRHI.  American Bandstand & Kilgo's Canteen were on TV.  I was a host on Kilgo's for app. 3 months, summer only, still in HS.

Those were fun days!!

Barry Dominick

Visit Guest Book

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Barry Dominick passed away in the comfort of the home that he loved on April 30, 2012, after a spinal cord injury and an extended complicated illness.

Barry was born December 23, 1939, to Thelma and Snowden Dominick in Rock Hill, S.C. Barry was one of six children who grew up on Chestnut Street. He attended Central Elementary, Rock Hill High School and Clemson University. In school, Barry was known for his oratory and debating skills, winning several awards for speeches.

After a year at Clemson University and five years in the U.S. Army, he started as a DJ for WRHI radio in Rock Hill. He had a passion for radio and a dream to turn the station into a success. He worked as Station Manager from the 1960s until he left in 1977. Barry worked for Ryder Truck Leasing for 25 years. Shortly after his retirement from Ryder, he began working part-time for the Mecklenburg County ABC stores, a job he loved because of the good spirited customers and his fellow co-workers.

Barry loved sports and was an avid USC Gamecock fan, especially in football and baseball. On any given weekend it would not be unusual to find him in front of the TV watching one game, while listening to another on the radio. He loved dogs and they loved him. Barry was a strong, earnest, and caring man who always had an optimistic attitude and made the best of any situation. He had a calm confidence that allowed others to feel comfortable in his presence. He was full of fun and always had a smile and kind word for those he encountered.

Barry is survived by his wife, Melinda, his daughter, Mary Carolyn, and his sisters, Janet Sampson, Gail Dearing and Kerry Dominick. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Taylor Snowden Dominick; his daughter, Laura Beth Dominick; his parents, Snow and Thelma Dominick; his sister, Lowaine McKenzie and his brother, Virgil Dominick.

Barry’s sound advice, thoughtful actions, and warm love will be missed forever. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Edward Bradford, Barry’s primary healthcare provider for many years, for his kindness and caring, Also thanks to the receptionists at Mecklenburg Medical Group, who were extremely helpful in a pinch. The family is eternally grateful to Susie Johnson, R.N., for it was because of her knowledge, strength, and gentle guidance that the family was better able to support Barry and do the best by him.

Barry had a deep commitment to Hospice because of the special care that Hospice provided to his daughter, Beth. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care of Charlotte (Main), at 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204. A memorial service in celebration of Barry and his love will be held at 3 p.m. this Sunday, May 27, 2012, in Laurelwood Cemetery, located at 143 Laurel Street, in Rock Hill, S.C.

J. B. Tallent Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Betty and Kay,

I had communicated with Ira about Sammy's treatment a while back and we exchanged emails at that time. I am sorry I did not share with you all but I erred on the side of privacy. I now see that it is good to share our concerns so we can support each other through our website. Thank you both for raising my awareness!

I've posted the picture that Ira and Sammy sent in for our reunion slide show last year. They are pictured here with their granddaughter, Eliza.

Be Sure to scroll to the bottom and see all the discounts you may be eligible for!

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too. This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50.

This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family, too.

Beck: I was aware that Wendy's gave a discount and use it often, but so many I did not know. I understand that Dunkin' Donuts has the best coffee in the world and that would be a great one to take advantage of.  Thanks for posting this and thanks to Annie Williams (Class of '67) for sending it.  I'm going to print a list for my car, so I won't forget to ask for the senior discounts. Kay

I don't know if this is inappropriate or not, but for the longest time I have wondered what happened to Sherry Crump Massey and Jack Massey. Since they are both deceased, I wonder if anyone has any information about them we can add to our "In Memory" section. I can't find anything on the internet such as obituaries.  I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks. Kay

For those who may not have received my email:

6/14/2012 email below:

To the Class of '66:

All, I encourage you to join the following websites if you have not done so already. This is a great way to stay in touch with those classmates and receive important notifications. We walked the halls with many of these students in the past so let's commit to staying connected now. Reach out and sign up today! I think you will find it rewarding.

I also encourage you to crash..er, I mean "attend" other Class events to party....er...I mean to "show our Bearcat support"  If you have pictures from any events you have attended in the past, please send them to me and I'll post them on our website. Check out our photo gallery where you will see some pictures from the Class of  '65 and their Nov. 25, 2011 and May 19, 2012 events.

Shame on me for not taking pictures of this year's Come See Me Week's Beach Blast and gathering of the Class of' '67. I promise to get better at that. We did post Karen Tinsley's picture from the Evening Herald as she danced in the street that day! Karen, along with Kay Manning Elrod, me and my husband, Russell, made a showing. We spotted our own Lewis Whisonant there with his wife, Jenny (Class of '67). I saw childhood friend, John Rinehart and met their class website administrator, Annie Williams. Their Class organizes occasional brunches and BBQ's to keep everyone connected. The Class of '65 and '67 rock!!!

If you have any suggestions or ideas for social gatherings or preferences (location, type of event, time of year, etc.) for the Class of '66, let me and Kay know.

Thanks for your commitment to our website and keeping the Bearcat memories ever present.

Becky

Kay & Becky, Sherry Crump Massey died some years ago. She was in a nursing home because of MS (I think).  Jack Massey died some years ago in York on a visit to RH from Florida.  The Herald stated he was shot @ a home on S. Shiloh Road.  So sad, but wanted to let you know

:)Betty
