Update on Barbara and request for prayers..

Martha Phillips Cook is a very resourceful! She waas able to get in touch with Barbara's cousin and this is an update

Barbara has had COVID since November 19. She is very sick and her diabetes complicates the situation. She is weak, confused and can't walk well. Her son took her to the hospital last night. As I receive more news, I will pass along to the class.

Cheryl was unpacking a box at her home recently and found the program from the 15th Reunion Family PIcnic1981. Thanks, Cheryl for sharing this information. The details can be found on our homepage tab: 15th Reunion Family Picnic or by clicking on the link below.

Does anyone have some old documents or school photos you can unpack and share? If so, email them to me or post here.

Thanks,

Becky

Just a word of caution:  My neighbor is in the hospital with Covid. They had the ComCast guy out working. All parties had masks on and kept a safe distance.  A few days later the family got a call from ComCast saying the guy had tested positive and they were notifying all of his recent calls.  My neighbor developed symptoms and difficulty breathing on Sunday and wife took him to the hospital.  She has also tested positive, their adult daughter who lives with them tested negative. He is 70 and fit as a fiddle, does a lot of manual labor building houses, recently completed an addition onto his house. No underlying illnesses.  Today, he is doing a little better. For this illness to have hit so close to home, it makes you aware of how vulnerable we are and how the family suffers from the absence of a loved one.  Will he live to enjoy his new house? She is depressed and lonely, scared and can't eat? She can't be with him should he become worse. The children can't see either parent. Of course, all of this has been on the news.  Please be aware of who comes into your home and weigh your priorities.  Is that service worth the price of a loved one suffering or dying?  Keep up your guard sanitizing surfaces in your home and car.  It is not proven, but we think he might have contracted the disease by surface contamination - door knobs, remote control device, computer keyboard, etc.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas season. I'm rather looking forward to it this year, we will have family over only if they are safe and healthy. No presents - who wants to shop under these circumstances, and I think we have all learned nothing is more valuable than our loved ones.  Some of our people are struggling to survive financially and no one needs to be burdened with an "obligation present."

Thanksgiving was great, everyone brought some very interesting and delicious contributions - Challa and chocolate Babka (to die for!!!)

Cheryl, thanks for the invitation to the 15th reunion barbeque.  There is a lot of history of our class written in there - careers, marriages, and deaths. We've experienced so much since then.  Thanks for sharing.

I just received a call from our chairman of deacons and they decided we will be doing virtual church again this week after the uptick of COVID-19 cases in York County. I do have underlying conditions and the leadership of the church wants to keep me safe.... Oh, and so does my family.

Stay safe friends and stay home.

Ms. Connie, God loves you even though are not religous. I have and will continue to pray for you. I have had a son to pass also, so I know how hard it can be. I do have two other sons, so that helps. If I can help any way feel free to call me at 803-984-2394.

I don't know how many(if any) of y'all have a family member at White Oak out on Ebenezer Rd. I'm posting this as a reference to how bad things have gotten in York Co. My Mother has been there for 4 years and  tested positive about 3 weeks ago and that puts me on the list  to receive robo update calls about every 2/3 days. Todays call was a shocker 91 residents are now positive which is 70% as they only have 130 residents. Also there are 45 staff positive, I don't see how they are making do. BTW: My mother is doing fine, she is the toughest 98yo around

Kay Manning (Elrod)

Jimmy, does she have symptoms?  This is just unbelievable!  I'll add her to my prayer list which grows longer every day.  Do they move them to the hospital if they get real bad?

D. Anne Bagley (Elliott)

Connie , so sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers for peace and comfort that will hold you in Gods arms

also seniors in homes. My mom is in Pruitt on Herlong . She likes living there but now no visitors and she is getting dementia .
We will get past this time and our many mountains!! Bless you all. Anne.

Jimmy Vick

No, Kay, she does not have any symptoms at all but as Anne mentioned no visitors and I think this makes things worse. We have been able to visit only 1 time since February. They moved her when she tested positive and this really confused her. I will keep up with it. Anne, I haven't heard about any large breakout at Pruitt but that doesn't mean much. I will try and find out for you.

Cathy McCallum (Morrison)

Jimmy Vick, our mother was there for less than a year prior to her death in 2019. She hated every minute of it there at White Oak nursing home on Ebenezer.  The care given to her was spotty at best; one of us was in and out most every day, trying to make her being there more pleasant and to stay on top of what needed to be done for her. But it sounds like it has gone from bad to worse. I'm so sorry to hear that your mother and so many others living there have Covid.  My only suggestion would be to move her to a better facility after she is free of her symptoms. I am praying for your family, especially for your mother and the medical staff. And your mom is obviously made from extremely strong stock!  God, please help them all.

Kay Manning (Elrod)

Jimmy, it is my understanding that the CNA's and other staff move from home to home which promotes the spread of this disease. It's possible all the nursing homes in the area are having a large outbreak. Praying for the best for your mom and your family.

Also no prayers, but our hearts and love go out to you in what is a terrible time.

Jimmy, I know the anxiety you are going through with your mom as well as the rest of with elderly loved ones

Sometimes we don't hear the happy endings to the Covid stories, but yesterday our neighbor came home from the hospital.  I know that they had oxygen brought in but don't know what his status is with that.  His wife seems to be out of quarantine now without having had symptoms.  Life is a lot better today on Cross Field Lane!

Linda Greene (George)

This year has been so hard on everyone. We've all lost friends and family members, had to endure the solitude of staying home and worrying about what will happen.

Connie, I cannot know how you feel, but my heart goes out to you. That would be the most devistating loss I could imagine.

Jimmy, I'm hoping your mother does well.  I met her years ago when she was at Chandler Place with my mom and enjoyed her company. My thoughts are with y'all.

Anne, your mom as well. It must be so scary not be able to be with them right now.

To all my classmates and friends, I hope you have as nice a holiday season as possible. Let's all do our part by wearing our masks, social distancing and staying safe and maybe next year, we can all be here to celebrate together.

Peace to you all!

Thanks, Lyn. Managing the class website is a team effort thanks to fellow admins: Kay, Dee and now Cheryl. The website would not be possible if you and other classmates did not support it financially. You all deserve big thanks as well. Thanks to your contributions our website subscription is paid up through 2026. Our domain name, rockhill66.com comes up for renewal in 2022 so we are ahead on that too. Thank you all for being involved and supportive. To date 45% of our class has joined our website. We need everyone’s help in finding missing classmates and encouraging them to join. This will be an ongoing effort as we head into 2021.

Just a shout out to Cotton Howell (or anybody that can help).  My Mom is trying to get in touch with Bonnie, the phone # she has says not in service. She worries about old friends nowdays. You can call me at 828-234-0424 or just reply here. Mom said she thought you had moved to the beach.

Talked to Cotton, all is back to norm

Thanks,  Jimmy Vick
