John's death was reported to me by Mike Forrest on Sept. 6, 2011. He worked with John at Bowater. Mike said that John died a few years ago of cancer and that he had been a smoker.

Kenneth Reid Hinson
It was a time of distress in my life that John helped me . My mom had passed away when I was 17. I left Rock Hill for a short time to go live with my sister in Tennessee. I returned back to Rock Hill and began living with my oldest brother. I had missed a few weeks of school and had gotten behind in my English Literature classwork. John asked the teacher if he could update me on a story that the class had been studying while we were in class. She allowed him to. He explained it so well without being interrupted for 30 minutes that I grasped it all and had no problem passing the test on the subject the next time around. Thank You John, I never forgot this. I would never have made it without your help. Ken Hinson
