This is for all my PELE Classmates: The time we called everyone in Temple that we were not coming because we had a Senior class meeting and we just rode around Temple for about hour and had the guy in the truck follow us all the way back to Rogers........

Howdy folks...

I just wanted to throw in my two cents' worth before we get too deep into the plans. I have a couple of ideas regarding our get-together, and I would like to run them by y'all. As with most get-togethers like this, there are a lot of people who like the idea, but it gets difficult when it comes to fleshing out that idea. I think that no one wants to be stuck with the cost of putting down deposits, and collecting money from prospective attendees, I promise, will be a hassle. I also think that waiting until Homecoming '09 at the school itself will cause a lot of people to lose interest, especially those who will be traveling long distances to get there.

With that in mind, I propose that we do one of two things. Maybe we should reserve a room at one of the better restaurants in Temple or Belton, and make it a come-and-go/pay-as-you-go event. That way, no one is out any money for anything other than the meal itself. If we do that, then I also propose that we reserve a few tables at a club in Temple or Belton that has live music, and those that want to continue the evening together can do so at their own expense...

The second proposal would be to talk to Alice Sulak out at Sefcik and see if she would just let us do some sort of beer-and-bar-b-que get-together out there. I'm sure that between us all, we could come up with a grill and several people to run it. I would be willing to put together a band if anyone was interested in having live music, and I would throw in my services for free, but we'd have to figure out a way to pay the other musicians.

Here is one more option. If anyone really wants to put together an event that would require money collection, I propose that we set up a Class of '79 account on PayPal, and that will make it much simpler. With some sort of collection account in place, I think we would need to set a date, time, location and cost for the event, and then we'll need to set about collecting enough money to make it happen.

I think we should look at sometime after the holidays to get this together.
Maybe we could look at sometime in late February/early March.

I am willing to help out wherever and whenever I can, but we need some people who actually live in the area to help lay the groundwork. If there is anyone down there who can recommend a restaurant that might be able to handle up to possibly 75-80 people, your suggestions would be welcome.

Anyway, if you all will pass my contact info around, I'll start collecting ideas and we can discuss as time goes on. With the holidays approaching, late Feb./early March would be on us before you know it.

Margaret Moreno, if you want to send me your email contact list, I will send this email on to others.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Kyle Mathis

I like the Sefcik idea the most. A band would be nice. Any time would work for us. We could bring food. What about kids? I think they should be included.

Frank’s Lake view inn has been brought out and it has finally re-opened the latter part of this summer. It is called the Dead Fish…. They serve food similar to BJ’s, here In Temple and the atmosphere is awesome. They do have a big room for parties. The Ranch closed the first part of the summer so that is out. Sefcik sounds good to me but they are charging an arm and leg to rent the upstairs. I can try and talk with Alice and see if we can pull some strings. We, Wayne and I, have a huge pit that we could use to cook on if we decide to cook. Also, if that did not work, maybe we could all meet downstairs instead. Big Bob’s in Cameron is really not big enough unless we reserved the bar area and then we could have a band…. Cyclone is an option too. They open up in the spring and close the first part of November. I don’t know of any place in the Rogers area. Star Hall has a room in the back of the hall that usually rents for 75.00…. We could have a live band but there really would be no place to dance unless we moved the tables in the building, and we could also cook there. We did have our 10 year class reunion there and it seemed to work pretty well. Of course, there were not a lot that showed up…. Anyway, that is my two cents worth…

Hey folks...

Thank you for your responses. So far, it seems as if the ideas that have the most support would be some sort of beer-and-bar-b-que get-together (whether it would be at Sefcik or Star Hall), or the Dead Fish Grill out on Belton Lake. Let's gather up a few more ideas, and let's see if we have enough interest to put it to a vote. I agree that Star Hall is a good option (although I have sentimental ties to Alice and Sefcik). Once we decide on a place, let's decide on a date, and then, we'll start working on a cost and a way to collect money. Not wanting to be a jerk, but once we set a date, place and cost, we will also have to set a drop-dead date, if we are going to collect money in advance. Once we have everything in place, I will set up a PayPal account to start collecting money, and it will be pretty simple after that.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thank you,

Kyle Mathis

Steve Morris here....
I too have sentimental ties to dat Alice and dat Sefcik Hall. Put me down for dat Sefcik.

As far as the band thing, I hereby and unofficially volunteer to offer my most awsomest drum playing skills.
That will be one less person that needs to get paid.

Hell, lets not get TOO serious with all this....I vote for an official class of '79 Jam session.

Everyone bring something to play! Cosmic harmony at it's finest. Pianos, harmonicas, banjos, digeridoos, guitars, tamboreens, cowbells, tubas, flutes, clarinets, trombones, tympanis, ....let's open this puppy up.

This could turn out to be really sweaty !!!!

Greetings and hello to everyone.
I like the Beer and BBQ. It does not matter to me where.
I suggest doing it later then Feb. A warmer date. Like Spring time. April, anyone? While I can't play any instruments I can cook. So I can help with the BBQ and icing down the beer :") Has anyone tried Labatts Blue? Awesome Canadian water (beer).

Hello All

Just wanted to drop a line to see if anyone has thought about a date for the reunion. I think we really need to move forward if we are going to make this happen.

I agree with Ms. Bracht's post. If we don't get anything scheduled in the next couple of months, the year will get away from us. According to the profiles page, there are 22 people who are interested in getting together. If we want to move forward with the Sefcik Hall idea, then maybe Elaine Zavodny or someone who still lives out in the area can make a phone call or drop by to see Alice and see where we can go from there.

This is going to take a couple of months to plan, so I would say April 1 is our drop-dead date for the planning end of things. If nothing is planned by then, let's just call it off.

Ok, I just called Carolyn Morgan to find out about the Rogers Homecoming and she has directed me to Angie Gloria who is on the committee. The Homecoming is scheduled sometime in September. I will get a hold of Angie and get some definite plans. If anything, we can attend the Homecoming and get together there. We can also find out about a local dance or get together somewhere later in the evening. How does that sound.

I like Margaret's idea about trying to do it during Homecoming unless a date has already been chosen.

I agree with Dr. Tyroch. If we meet homecoming weekend, we can re-elect new homecoming kings and queens...good for another 15-20 yrs., or till we meet again.

With that being said, effective immediately, I hereby respectively withdraw my name from nomination for homecoming King and will not accept any other posts.

However, (no disrespect to all the class of '79 beautiful women) I would like to cast my vote for and nominate as homecoming Queens all the thong wearing guys who participated in the late-night, moon-lit, high-kick line dance I referred to on my profile page. If I left anyone out, you know who you are.

As far as attending a homecoming dance, I'll stick to my initial recommendation for an all-out community homecoming jam session. If we jam, they will dance.
So bring your gear!
It's a jam smack down.
