Hello Class of 1988! It's hard to believe it's been 20 years now but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Please share any input on ideas for our reunion. Any help on getting in touch with those who information we don't have will be helpful!

Besides the ones we actually graduated with I'd like to see others that were in our class at one point in time. Here are a few names I can think of.... Thomas Trejo, Gina Hackworth (Howeth), Andy Tindell, Sean Schultz, Shannon Heinzen (Mayfield). Those are just a few I can think of. Would you like to see them as well? If so let me know and help me think of others and if anyone knows how to get in touch with them.

Man it's going on 20 years. Were is the time going? I hope everyone gets the message cuz I would love to see everyone at our 20 year reunion. There wasn't much of a 10 year reunion. Well hope to see everyone.

I was looking forward to seeing all of you at our 20 year reunion until I heard that it was not going to be an alcohol free event. I think that this class more than most groups should by now understand the dangers of the negative effects of alcohol consumption. Let's be honest many of us are pretty damn annoying sober (Jerry you know who you are). If you add alcohol into the mix many of us are downright intolerable. Myself included. So I really think that this could be our chance to overcome the burden that was placed around our collective necks so many years ago. Of course, that burden being the majority of our addictions to alcohol. I, for one, think I could almost tolerate most of you in a sober state and I'm sure a few of you could say the same about me. Do you think we can all give it a try? I certainly hope so. We wouldn't want some the of the following events to re-occur.

Travis would have never driven that old 4020 John Deere with a JD 510 roundbaler through the school cafeteria were it not for the 3 pints of peppermint schnapps he had with breakfast that early July morning in '87. Fortunately, he was a pretty good bricklayer when drunk and the accident went unnoticed for years.

Were it not for the bottle of Crown that Eric and I drank between classes, I doubt he would have ever jumped up in Coach Goodwin's class and yelled " I have more knowledge regarding Civics in my little finger than you will ever obtain, Goodwin!" and maybe I wouldn't have jumped and yelled "Yea!" Or maybe if I weren't as drunk I could have come up with something better to say. Who knows?

Or maybe if I would have come to school sober at least one day of the week I would have never gotten involved in the illicit affair with that Art teacher that we had. Or at least I would have been able to remember her name.

Steven M. would have never slashed Tessa's tires on that muggy September evening had he not drank half a beer beforehand. Wait a minute, Tessa you did know it was Steven right? Sorry Snake.

There are so many other events that would have not taken place were we able to fend off the allure of deamon alcohol. Now that we are all grown up maybe we should try to be better people. So let's try and stay clean and sober during this blessed reunion.

I got good news from my doctors here at the Athens State Hospital. They are thinking they might be able to let me leave, under supervision of course, and come see all you guys at the reunion. Maybe, just maybe, I might be able to sneak into a liquor store and get some Strawberry Hill or Country Kwencher to drink on the bus ride over. I may talk a big game regarding alcohol abstinence but truth be told I have not kicked the habit one bit. I feel that I have been fortunate to have found out that mixing alcohol with Lithium and Zoloft provides a state of euphoria that the whole world should have the pleasure of enjoying.

Hopefully, I will be able to see each and every one of you. But if I can't make it you are all welcome to come and see me here at the hospital. Visiting hours are from 11:00 AM thru 3:00 PM on Mondays only. It's only 70 miles NE of Atlanta. Don't all come at once though. I am only allowed one visitor per week.

That's all I have to say.

Well here is our chance classmates! With everyones help I'm sure that between all the doctor's, lawyers, accountants, nurses and other professionals in our class we can surely get Joe back here for the reunion and be able to monitor him and his medications, counsel him to stay strong and "not fall off the wagon" and if he does get into any kind of trouble I feel that we could provide a great legal defense team on his behalf. So how about it classmates is everyone in on getting this sick and crazy SOB back here for our 20 year reunion????

And if all doesn't go as we hope and he can't make it then just know Joe we will proudly hold our Boone's Farm bottles, Milwaukee's Best cans and Mad Dogg 20/20 bottles high and toast in your rememberance and always hope you will overcome your demons.

CHEERS!!!!!!!!

SEE YOU THERE JOE!!!!!

I would like to take this time to apologize to the ten to eleven classmates that have contacted me to chastise me for my reference to a couple of prescription drugs on my earlier post. Might I add that it appears that some of us have developed some quite colorful language since graduation. Nonetheless I realize I shouldn't have implied that combining these drugs with alcohol was a potentially good thing. So please accept my apologies.

P.S.

Steven K.,

Per our interchange of emails you did mention that your physician had found a way to allow you to mix Wellbutrin, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft without any negative side effects. Could you give me the dosages for each that allows such a mixture to take place? As I stated my own physician has been hesitant to do the same. But after talking with him about your apparent success he said he would give it try for me. I would be eternally grateful and feel truly blessed if you would do this for me.

I forgive you for implying that you don't look forward to seeing me. I know deep down in my heart that you were just kidding.

Dear Joe B,

I'm sorry that you took that the wrong way (looking forward to seeing everyone, except Joe). I meant "except Joe" the crazy person. I'm looking forward to seeing the Joe that was somewhat normal. So please take your meds and come see us.

As for the prescription cocktail I take, you'll need to consult with Max or Donna.

Regards - Steven K.

I personally want to see the crazy Joe...

08/27/08 09:37 AM #10

Joseph Bartek

Shannon, you are too kind. However, we prefer the term enlightened as opposed to crazy. I expect such harsh labeling from someone such as Steven but it shocks me that you would use such language. I don't expect anyone to understand my current mental state since I have seen virtually none of you in decades. Thusly I forgive you for your insensitive comment. If am able to make the reunion I hope to be the "stable" Joe.

Peace and blessings

Shannon Riney (Loyd)

So sorry, Joe. My word choice was a negative effect of my alcohol consumption...

08/27/08 04:57 PM #12

Gina Pearson (McCallum)

Insensitive......hell no we want Crazy Joe! At least Saturday night but maybe for the kids sake that afternoon the "stable Joe" better be around. Speaking of family.....Joe did you ever get married? have a family?

It's good to see participation in the "group message forum", although it has uncovered some of Joe's personal issues that are rather unflattering. It has brought Shannon (hi Shannon) into the circle. Are there others that are reading this, but fear what Joe B may have to say about you. Yes, he is a bit hard to defeat...but don't be scared...Steven K

Shannon Riney (Loyd)

Hi Steven...I'm with you--what's up with everyone? Don't be afraid--speak up! I've got a great question...how the hell did we fit our hair into those prom pictures? Bet that 80's look won't make it back into style...

Angela McNeill (Williams)

Ok, I've held back for weeks, but now Steven's encouragement has led me to post a comment. Joe, I want to send out my sympathy for your struggles that you have endured since graduation and the horrific demons you are fighting. I guess it just goes along with being a part of our class, right?!? Hey, maybe I can motivate you to come to the reunion by lettng you know that in the slide show presentation, there will be NO pictures of you with your curly hair in jr high, and no pictures of you with your art teacher lover......oops, well, maybe part of that is true. All I can say, is it won't be the same without you. :)

08/27/08 11:28 PM #16

Steven Kohring

Wow..that worked...I should've been a counselor instead of a bean counter.

Angela - Please don't bring up Joe's affair with the Art Teacher again. He accidently let that one slip.

Shannon - I guess I'll cut off the mullet for the reunion.

Travis - Please have your wife show you how to use your computer so you can respond to the e-mail I sent you several days ago.

I'm scared of lots of things, but Joe aint one of them. Hey Joe, how are things in Georgia? Let me know if you need a ticket home and I'll hook you up with a pass. I don't want you to have any excuse for not showing up. For some reason I don't remember The incident with Travis and the tractor. But I guess its possible that it took place on one of the 20 or so days that I missed that year. Seriously guys, its great to hear from all of you. Look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks. Joe, whatever meds you gotta take, just take care of it and get yourself to the game on Friday.

So we cant bring up the other teachers that Joe had affairs with? Great to hear from all of you, looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Angela - First of all thank you for your understanding nature in light of my current condition. You always were a caring and compassionate person which always made me wonder what you did in your youth that led you to being punished by being included in our class of misfits.

I am having trouble getting pictures of my kids from my ex so Gina has already told me that the curly headed picture will be going up. That's ok. It will give me an opportunity to relive the days back when I still had hair. As far as pics with the "art teacher" are concerned I don't think any exist. She was very adamant about avoiding public pictures of us together. Private pictures and videos were another story. She was what some might call kinky in her private life. I was only a young naive boy not sure of the ways of the world that ended up getting taken advantage of.

Shannon - it's funny that you mention the "big hair" syndrome that was taking place back then. I can't believe how dorky you broads looked back then. Don't get me wrong. At the time I felt that all the girls in our class were beautiful and had normal looking hair. It just took twenty years for me to realize that I was very, very wrong.

Grease (Eric for those who don't know his preferred name)- I can recall a time when I was reliving a Vietnam war moment with a bat in my hand that I threatened to use on you if you ever........wait...that wasn't you. Nevermind I was going to relive a moment in which I thought you may have been scared of me but it was your twin and not you.

Steven K.- first of all I hope your are having a blessed day. But in regards to Travis's computer you have to forgive him for not responding in a timely manner. A few months back I was granted a leave and went to OK to visit Travis because for some reason he always felt that he was my dad. So I felt obligated to be a burden on him and his family for a week. While there I spilled about a gallon of tomato juice on his keyboard which ended up shorting out the entire system. Obviously he hasn't gotten around to purchasing a new one. I suspect he logs onto this site from work on occasion. BTW it is possible to "accidentally" spill a whole gallon of tomato juice when you are sleepwalking.

Lori Schiller - I want to apologize again for yelling at you telling you that you aren't my real mom. I hope you have decided to start speaking to me again.

Gina - is there a rule about language on this site. The reason I ask is because I really wanted to tell Steven K that he was and always will be a sack of shit in my opinion. But I thought it might be wrong to say that. Can you let me know if that is ok?

08/28/08 09:37 PM #20

Steven Kohring

Joe - I've been called alot worse. Although you beat me on the scale by a good 60-70 lbs, I can still take you. Game on.
