Cathy (Katy) and I had so many fun and often hilarious times together our senior year. A blonde beauty, and a loving hearted friend. We shared our birthday day of May 31st together, did a crazy diet of only chocolate, then only ice cream, then only meat sticks, etc making rounds on our bikes through the burg to different places who could serve them up LOL. We decided one Saturday to put on our swim suits and bicycle to a swimming spot on the river which took us from Roseburg all the way out the end of Tyee road and then into Sutherlin getting there at night with only 15 cents in our pocket; not enough to make a phone call for a ride and ended up riding on the old highway all the way back to town and home. What were we thinking those days!? We camped outside in bags in my backyard, stayed up all night more than once just to talk and laugh over rediculous nonsense LOL. The last time we saw one another was when she came by our home on her way to Seattle with a friend before her daughter was born. I was so looking forward to seeing her in September. I am so saddened at this news. I will hold all our time in my heart with fondness. Hugs Cathy, dear Katy.
This news was hard to take when remembering someone so full of life! Every day with Cathy was an adventure .....and a little crazy, but she taught me to not take life so seriously!
My memories of Cathy (Katy) are similar to Aleta's. I remember hiking up the river while wearing peel-off facial masks to beautify while we explored.....then finding out on the way home that the gas in Cathy's VW was below the empty line, but it didn't bother her in the least! And working with her at the Sizzler was nothing short of hilarious! There I learned that ice cream is the best way to get your dairy intake for the day and to never try to clean the ice cream machine with hot water before emptying it, otherwise the buckets will overflow!
Cathy and I reconnected about 20 years ago when she lived in Bothel but needed to attend training in Portland for a new job. I introduced her to a teaching friend who had a room to rent and she spent several months commuting. One of my daughters and I took a trip to Seattle arond that time and we were able to enjoy a wonderful meal at her house.....cooking had become a joy for her!
