Stephen DaWayne Chasteen, born December 3, 1954 in Roseburg, Oregon passed away in his Hillsboro, Oregon home on July 18, 2024 at the age of 69. Steve had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished his time hunting in the Eagle Cap Wilderness alongside his father, brothers, son and friends. It was truly his favorite place on earth. Additionally, he and his wife enjoyed vacationing in Mexico, snorkeling and creating memories together. For 49 years, Steve worked as a brick mason, a profession where he not only built structures, but also built lifelong friendships. He took pride in his trade and mentoring countless young men through their apprenticeships, ensuring they could provide for their families just as he did. Steve leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Laurie, children Travis (Melyssa), Nichelle, Stephanie, and Michael (Courtney), as well as his beloved grandchildren Kyle, Callie, Benny, Jace and Frances. He is also survived by his mother, Lavonne, sister, Carrie (Todd), and brothers Jack (Wendy), Andy (Tina), and Matt (Helga). Steve was preceded in death by his father Gene and his brother Mike.    
Stephen DaWayne Chasteen will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

I will always remember Steve's beautiful smile that lit up his eyes and made me feel happy. I'm sorry he's left us - it always seems way too soon!

I agree, Kim. He had a beautiful smile that lit up his face & eyes. Maneuvering through teen years had its challenges, and Steve was always friendly & had an encouraging word. I'm glad he's not suffering & he's now at peace. I wish I could have seen him one more time.🥰
