Sally Luoma (Gough) VIEW PROFILE

Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 25, 2015, of heart failure. She was 60 years old. Sally was born in Portland, Oregon, but grew up in Roseburg, graduating from Roseburg High School in 1973. In her youth she developed a life-long interest in music (piano, guitar, choir) and enjoyed hiking and horseback riding. Sally attended Oregon State University and graduated from Portland State University with a degree in sociology. Sally married Evan Gough in 1990 and they resided in Beaverton, OR. She worked at a number of jobs but most enjoyed working with students of the Beaverton school district, where she was employed for 12 years. On 07/07/07 (an auspicious day for Sally), she was reunited with her birth family. It was a joyous occasion when she reconnected with her birth father and siblings. She and her new-found family greatly cherished the (too few) years that they were able to spend together.

Sally’s parents George and Frances Luoma; Shirley Jean Leino Haglund; and Gilbert “Doc” Haglund preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Evan Gough of Beaverton, OR; brother Dan Luoma (Joyce) of Corvallis, OR; and siblings Debbie Lake (Ron) of Astoria, OR, Tammy Haglund (Robert Burns) of Shelton, WA, Cheryl Clark (Dan) of Terrebonne, OR, and Rick Haglund (Debbie Foley) of Astoria, OR; aunt Lois (Haglund) Thrapp (Karl White) of Salem, OR; uncle Gordon Haglund (Janice) of Astoria, OR; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and two grand nieces.

A grave-side service took place at Crescent Grove Cemetery & Mausoleum in Tigard, OR, and a celebration of her life was held at the Beaverton Elk’s Lodge. Attending were family and numerous friends who miss her dearly. Sally particularly valued volunteering with the Elks in preparing food for the Fourth-of-July picnic. She was also active in spreading joy throughout her neighborhood by doing small acts of kindness on a regular basis. Sally was a creative person who loved making and giving gifts. Her faith sustained her in times of need and is a comfort to those she left behind.
