I wish I could attend the reunion but I will be in Alabama starting a new school year. These last ten years have been amazing. I moved to Virginia right after graduating from high school and attended Liberty University. I loved exploring the east coast with great new friends. I graduated in 2004 and accepted a teaching offer the following 2004-2005 school year. Then I moved to New York City to attend graduate school. There I met my best friend and husband, Juan, playing basketball. He is a brilliant writer from Ecuador. I graduated from New York University in 2006 with a M.A. in Literacy Education. I taught outside of Washington D.C. the 2006-2007 school year. Juan and I moved to Seattle and got married in 2007 and honeymooned in Paris. I worked with k-12 Native American students as a coordinator for the school district outside of Seattle. In July 2009 we moved to Alabama where Juan is working on his M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama until April 2012. I'm teaching low socio-economic African American first-graders. We're enjoying having the same school year schedule so we can travel to new countries and see our families in Oregon & New York. This past year we’ve been to Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and Colombia. I’m blessed to have loving family and friends and a job that allows me to serve underprivileged children and time off to travel.
