1969-1977: UNC for undergrad, law and business schools.

1977-1983: Lived in Raleigh. First job as in-house atty. at a mortgage insurance co. Met Susan at church and got married in 1979.

1983-2000: Moved to Los Angeles, ultimately settling in Pasadena. Folks in Roxboro (and Susan's in Raleigh too for that matter) couldn't understand why anyone would want to live in such a place. Actually, it grew on us, but after 17 years, we were ready to head back to the east coast. Worked for a mortgage insurer that "went under," and after wrapping up the liquidation, went to work at Fannie Mae's Western Region office. This was a "nice deal"--the office was 2 miles from our house, and when the car was in for service, a pleasant walk. Yes, an atypical Los Angeles-area experience.

2000-2016: Moved to DC to work in Fannie Mae's headquarters office in 2000. Lived in Chevy Chase MD. In 2005 built a log cabin in the Asheville area (Swannanoa actually, just E of Asheville). Our original plan was to retire there, but though we continue to enjoy our visits and the general area, we decided in early 2015 to make it Roxboro instead! We were looking for an older house, and the 1924 vintage house on N Main fit the bill. We moved on June 1, and we are loving it--and I was able to get approval to continue my job working for Fannie Mae on a full-time remote basis. Honestly, the biggest surprise would have been for my father (who died in 1999)--who would be shocked to know we moved here. After working remotely for a year, retired the end of June.

Interesting fact: We have no kids, but we have 9 cats (all indoor). Actually, Susan had a little antique shop for a while in Black Mountain, named "Crazy Cat Lady Antiques and Folk Art." We like dogs too, and have a very sweet toy poodle named Zeke.
