I have a lovely memory of John. We shared the same birthday.  After we graduated, he asked me out on our August birthday.  We went out for a lovely dinner and then we sat and chatted for a long time.  I never knew him that well in high school, but he was very sweet that night. I was surprised at his high regard for me, since low self esteem has always been an issue for me. He said some lovely things that night. I never knew what a kind person he was. The evening ended strangely, however, as he told me he would not live past 40.  I think that turned out to be true. Merry Christmas everyone. I hope the coming year you will all be blessed with peace and love. I am teaching at Holy Name School in downtown Birmingham.  If anyone is ever out that way, please stop by for a chat over some coffee.  So sorry the reunion weekend turned out to be one that prevented me from attending.

John and I met when we were 4 years old, living in Southfield, and we became good buddies. Kath Poeppe lived right down the street (but she played with dolls and stuff).  We went together on the bus to our first day of Kindergarten, with our mothers crying as the bus pulled away  (we weren't.).  We went to LaSalette grade school together until the Stack clan moved to the Shrine parish.  His, and kathy's were pleasant faces to see my first day at Shrine High.  John had a serious side that we rarely got a glimpse of.  He told me a couple of years after high school that he did not expect to live long.  Sadly, he was right about that.
