Alan,

I didn't know about "the wall". You mean the rock wall below the rose garden.

I used to make out in the parking lot of the Unitarian church on Sierra Drive but I was dating a guy from Sac High

Happy Birthday, David! I also don't post much on this website but I sure do enjoy reading it. I like staying caught up with everyone even though I never see anyone since I moved up to WA. Thanks for all you do on this site , David. It seems everyone is enjoying & appreciating it. As for the memories: William Land Park (Sunday Band Concerts); Memorial Auditorium (went to many performances there as well as ushered for everything there); dressing up and riding the #2 bus with Karen Olson, going downtown to buy fabric and patterns and eat lunch at the counter in Woolworth's and then go back to her house to sew for the weekend and then wear our new outfit to school on Monday.

Remember some things not others.  I remember running down Riverside Blvd to a little hamburger joint with juke box slectors on the tables and singing songs while we ate looking just like the movies.  anybody else?  I have so much to do between caring for my family in Oakland and trying to get help to everyone in the Rogue valley that I'm not bored, just like the diversion.  Thx Margie for starting the diversion.  BTW  my home is safe but not so for some close to me.   2800 structures, most homes.  I worked with the Latino populations a lot before I retired so I know many of the folks whose homes were devastated.  Everyone is pitching in.  The destruction only hit part of the communities.  Ahhh Life.

Happy Birthday David!! Three-quarters of a century? We're getting into the big numbers! We really miss you and Bunny! It's been six months! Wish you both well and many more happy birthdays to a great guy!

Karmel corn at the movie theater at the Senator theater downtown, huge ice cream cones at Country Maid downtown shop, Matinees at the Tower theater, Listening and buying 45's and Lps at Tower records, 10 cent popcorn at Kress' 5 and 10 cent store, pizza at Joe Marty's, College High and Lawrence's clothing stores and missing most of all my classmates at Cal Jr. High and CKM!!

Happy Birthday David.  You have done a great job with this website!  It is so nice to read about all our classmates and their lives.

I would add to Margie's list: For those of us who lived in the Curtis Park neighborhood - Gunther's Icecream store - a close second to Vic's.  Also playing tennis at the Curtis Park courts.

I live in the Southwest part of Washington and we are getting lots of smoke from Oregon and California.  I can only imagine how bad it is there in Sacramento!

Stay safe everyone!

Happy Birthday David. We moved from Chicago in 1951 and you are the first person I remember meeting next door to my Aunt Bluma. Hard to believe how much time has passed. Wish you all the best, and I, too thank you for setting up the site. I made a donation when you set it up. Do you need any now to keep it going?

Thank you all so much for the very kind birthday whishes. Bunny and I were in the mountains for my birthday week trying to get some relief from the pandemic, heat and most of the smoke. I didn't have access to the website until we returned and what a delightful surprise. I'm so pleased that there are so many of you are still using and enjoying our McClatchy63.com website. It is my pleasure to be of service.

Sincerely,

David

Happy belated Birthday David. You have done a wonderful job of creating and keeping this website going.  I don't get on it often but it's nice to know that people are active on it and are sharing their stories. So sad to see the great state of California in flames. My family is in Northern California and wife's family in Southern California. So far all family members are safe. Although just saw Santa Rosa went up today. We lived there in the early 70s. We live in waht's called the Texas Hill Country outside Austin with hills, valleys, tons of creeks and small rivers. We have wild fire threats here but mostly scrub trees, Live Oaks, Spanish Oaks, Moutain Cedar, Mesquite and lots of grassland. Rain is precious here as it provides our drinking water and as this is a semi arid climate we protect it. .

Read through the comments and seems everyone had a great time at high school. I did as well but only there for two years so the lasting long term friendships are different. Do remember Vic's and in fact went there 4 years ago after selling my motner's house off Land Park. I remember A&W root beer  we went there after morning football practice to pig out of Root Beer Floats and huge sandwiches.

I wish you all a healthy and fire free fall. So ready to stop self isolating and getting out to other places other than the grocery, doctor's appointments, and drug store. .

Dear Friends:

Bill Kelso brought to my attention that Diana Doupé has died. I'd emailed her on this site on October 1 and hadn't heard back. Diana had passed away on September 26th. She was a gracious lady of enormous good spirit and lively wit. You will surely see her lovely personality in the profile she posted here a few years ago. Despite having settled in Geneva for her life's work and marriage, she went to great lengths to stay connected to the rest of us from our CKM days, having attended at least one, if not two reunions.

I found a little obituary online that has her family's announcement of her passing with notes about her teaching. Rest in peace Diana.

I am shocked at the news. She was so vibrant in her comments and so kind and upbeat. I didn't know her well at school but felt I knew her through her comments and oonnections these last years. Rest in peace.

Thank you Dennis for your post.

I am shocked that she passed away so young.  She looked so robust at the renunion. She was always full of life, warmth, sunshine and well-being.  She was beautiful inside and out.

We were friends in high school although we didn't keep in touch afterwards.

May she rest in peace.

This is such sad news, Diana was life it self, gracious, kind, educated, & caring.
She stayed in touch with each of us as she lived afar. She and I walked to the bus each morning, asking each other questions for an up coming test.
She will be missed. Thank you for letting us know.

I was so sorry to hear about Diane.  She lived right around the corner and we all took the bus together.  Loved seeing her at our 50 th reunion.

My thoughts and prayers are with her.
