William Laverty
Death: February 11th, 2025 Age: 78 years
William Warren Laverty passed away at age 78 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Frisco, Texas. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for over 10 years. Bill, as he was known, is finally pain-free and at rest with his Heavenly Father. His kindness, intelligence, humor, and determination will always be remembered, and his legacy of service and care will live on in all who knew him.
Bill was born on November 13, 1946 to Thomas and Lilian Laverty in Toledo, Ohio. He was the fifth of six children. Before his second birthday, the Laverty family moved to Saginaw, Michigan. He spent the rest of his childhood there, graduating from Arthur Hill High School. While attending the high school driver’s education class, he met the love of his life, Donna Mayer; they married on June 26, 1965. Bill and Donna’s 59 years of marriage set an example of devotion and love for all who witnessed their relationship. They raised four children together.
From 1966 to 1970, Bill served as a Morse code interceptor in the Army Security Agency. He was stationed in Vietnam from 1967-1969. Bill received the Army Commendation Medal in 1969. After serving his country, which he remained proud of his whole life, Bill earned an Associate of Arts from Delta College in 1974 and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management from Concordia University in 1988. He continued his education by taking master’s level courses in Inter-Disciplinary Technology. For over 20 years, he worked as a service representative and manager for Michigan Bell Telephone Co., which later became Ameritech. Using his management and interpersonal skills, Bill stepped out in faith and established Magic Brain, LLC. He and his family built and serviced computers for many local businesses and community members. He was also a respected member of the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Oakland.
In addition to his family life and career, Bill cultivated a lifelong appreciation for beautiful music. In his youth, he sang at the renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts and in later years with an Oakland County community chorus.
Bill and Donna eventually sold Magic Brain and moved to northern Michigan. They retired to cabin life on Big Bradford Lake in Waters. There, Bill and Donna enjoyed hosting family throughout the year. Bill found pleasure working on projects in his garage and around the property; he also loved taking his children and grandchildren fishing and boating on the lake. He even got to show off the lake to his first great-grandchild. As wintertime up north became challenging, Bill and Donna gradually moved full-time to sunny Buckeye, Arizona. They made many friends and enjoyed driving around the community in their golf cart. In 2020, they decided to move closer to family in the Dallas area.
Bill, and affectionately Dad and Bumpa, took great joy in his family. They take comfort in knowing that his faith brought him peace; he professed belief in Jesus Christ in third-grade Sunday School class.
Bill is survived by his wife Donna and their children, Kryle (Frank) Hirschenberger, Corby (Michelle) Laverty, Aubrey Laverty, Ryan (Meredith) Laverty; grandchildren, Rose (Justin) Hammond, Lucy (Jordan) Hirschenberger Hinrichs, Finian Laverty, Owen Laverty, Jane Hirschenberger, Brady Laverty, Mason Laverty, Oliver Laverty, Melvin Laverty, and Emaline Laverty; three great-grandchildren; sister Betty Lou (Dr. Timothy) Hickey, brother Robert Laverty, sister-in-law Connie (Arthur) Goodman, brother-in-law Richard (Elaine) Mayer, along with several nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lilian Laverty, parents-in-law Keith and Thelma Mayer, sister Barbara Laverty, sister Lilian Toomey, brother Thomas Laverty, and brother-in-law Michael Mayer.
A military honors service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 2:00-2:20 p.m. at the DFW National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. There will be a private reception for family following the service.

Bill Laverty's obit mentions his interest in singing. He was a member of the AHHS choir and also their 8-person octet, called Guys and Dolls, that sang at area clubs and civic organizations. I was in the octet with Bill, singing baritone to his perfect tenor. What a kind and decent person he was, and I always enjoyed chatting with him (and singing with him). I lost track of Bill after graduation, but the obit describes a full and rewarding life. Rest well, Bill. I remember you fondly. You'll be missed.

Dear Donna, my deepest sympathies to you and your beautiful family. I hardly remember a time living on W Michigan that LeeAnn, Bill and I weren't playing "kick the can" or some other game in the evening. Our family moved away in the 3rd grade, and it was so nice to have a little reunion at North in junior high. One couldn't help but love Bill. He was bright, compassionate and a good friend to those around him. I knew he struggled before and after our 50th reunion as he explained what a chore it was for him to email, but, he did so as long as he could. I know how much he will be missed by you and your family and also how grateful you all are that his struggles and pain have ended. May the Lord give you strength now. Sending a big hug, Shirley

I probably have known Bill all my life. He lived behind me and all we had to do was cross over the alley to get in each others yards. We went to school from K to Graduation together. Donna, Bill and I all graduated in '64. He was a good friend, always friendly and supportive. Like Shirley said, we all played together when we were young, usually on his street because it had less traffic. Roller skating all around the block, playing kick-the-can or softball and ice skating at Merrill Park.
Before they moved to AZ my husband and I drove up to their gorgeous home on the lake for a boat ride and dinner. We were already spending time in AZ and when he and Donna wanted to check out some places they came out and we showed them around. We got together a few times inspite of our busy schedules and called once or twice a year after they moved to Texas. I spoke to Bill last year and we talked quite a while. He will be missed by many.
Our thoughts are with Donna and her wonderful family.
