perhaps the smallest senior "fullback" in MLS football history
probably the poorest member of the MLS marching band
trombonist in Mazade's short-lived Dixieland band
semi-tuneful member of the Tuneful Twelve
the late nite "fixer" in early dorm life
occasional Latin "mule" for an illustrious classmate
worked hard to keep future sister-in-law at bay
senior year monitor at "Lee's Pad"
too pre-occupied, sorry to say, to give a graduation speech
...plus many other foibles & failures, too numerous to mention
It took a stint in Africa to help sort me out--and "by the grace of God, I am what I am."

World Mission Seminary Conference
The World Mission Seminary Conference was held July 28-Aug. 1 at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WLS), Mequon, Wis. About 30 missionaries, national pastors, and church leaders discussed issues in seminary and Bible Institute education on world mission fields and in sister churches around the world.
The theme “Growing Together: Dependence, Independence, and Interdependence” highlighted that missions around the world have moved from dependence on sister church bodies to being independent churches who have many insights to teach us and each other. “It is so exciting to see responsible interdependence—growing together and learning together. When we go to world fields, we learn. They teach us. They are the host culture,” says Prof. Kenneth Cherney, the world mission seminary professor at WLS.
Learning together was highlighted as missionaries and national pastors shared what seminary education looks like in places such as Africa and Indonesia. Another area of emphasis was the place and the teaching of biblical languages in the seminaries’ curriculums. WLS President Rev. Paul Wendland, who spent his childhood in a mission field in Africa, shared that though all the participants share the same faith and urgency to share Jesus, “gospel servants are adaptable to different world views and cultures. In all the different lands and circumstances we serve in, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all curriculum.”
WELS world missions administrator, Rev. Larry Schlomer, who grew up in a mission field in Colombia and served in the Dominican Republic, was thankful for the week of discussion and learning. “This is an important piece of what we do together, to share the insights that we all have with each other, to see the amazing things God allows us to do.”
