Does anyone have copies of the group pics we took at the 20 yr reunion? If you do send them to me and I will post them here. Also, if you have any of the 10 yr send them too.

I am completely amazed at how many people remember me, or at least my name. Not only was I so shy it hurt, my wife and daughter look at my grade school and jr high pictures and know why I ran a research lab at Intel for 25 years - "WHAT A GEEK"! I remember so many names, and so many crushes :O from k-12. I had every class picture and year book from k-12 until a fire took them all, (with a lot else!), this past winter. If someone still has all these from any of the school threads it would be wounderful to have them at the reunion, it's fun to look at every single year. Jeff, you probably don't remember we bumped into each other in Cedar Mills several years back. Laura, you must not have recognized me when I tried hailing you in front your parent's house awhile back (Christmas?, T-day?). I'm still working on the shyness thing so I'll try harder next time. :)

So let's put a couple other twists on this - who went to Halber Baptist, for k-12 but only 10-12 at McNary? Who has siblings, (Matthys, Prinzing, Zielinski, Tucker, Peterson, etc.), in the same class either ahead or behind? Who was in the same 'scout' troop but different grade schools?

Hmm, this is more than I said all senior year...

So Jory...LOL...never thought you were shy! I went to Halbert when we were kids - remember King's Sons and Daughters on Wednesday nights? Now we worship together again -- small world.

Jory Radke

Hi Cindy! Yes, I remeber you from Halbert, wow Kings Sons and Daughters, hadn't heard that in awhile! In case you haven't noticed, I've been too shy to say hello in the last 13 years at Salem Evangelical. Although I have mumbled a word or two to Bud! I'd preferred if it was the nerd part you'd disagreed with :)

I spoke with your parents one Sunday, although they did have to initiate the conversation.

My wife is extremely shy; it took one of my coworkers and one of her coworkers, who happened to be married to each other, to take us on umpteen double dates before we spoke 10 words to each other. But that was 25 wonderful years ago.

Finally managed to add a picture of our daughter to my profile.

I added some class room photos to my profile of my classes at Kennedy. I am missing my 3rd grade class pic but the other 5 years are there. Take a look and see if you can find yourself!

Jory,

I do remember bumping into you, in a previous life, Intel was a very large customer of mine and I would get out there quite a bit.

Don't remember the shyness issue and look forward to seeing you.

Hi everyone! Can't wait for the reunion! I am still trying to track down my best friend Lori Smith to come with me even if she didn't graduate. I have all my year books so I will bring them if we need them :)!

Jory,

Of course you KNOW I'll have to track you down on Sunday for a face-to-face :)! I would also LOVE to meet your beautiful wife who I've admired from afar. She's lovely & so glad to hear you've been married 25 years - had no idea but that is awesome! God is good! I don't think you got your "shy bone" from your parents :) LOL Isn't this website a bunch of fun & laughs? I truly just thought you didn't know I existed @ Halbert or McNary and figured you just didn't like me??? Isn't that just SO LIKE TEENS! Of course, now your secret is out...watch out, Sunday's coming!!!

Jory,
We went to school together from first grade on! I did not know you were so shy, I thought I was the shyest one in school!! Your wife is so pretty and so is your daughter!
Trent congrats on that new baby girl! Wow, that is awesome and your wife is very pretty also!

LOL!!!! Cindy, you must know WC & Shirl. They're special people. :)

Its so wonderful to hear from everyone, yes I recongnize every name on the forum. Although saddened by the passing of so many, it's great to hear how others are doing. Thanks to those of you with the kind words about my wife & daughter. When we used to go on family vacations, (Nichole is 24 now, so those days are pretty much over), people often thought they were both my adopted daughters, what an ego blow.

A word of warning, if you start me talking it may be hard to get me to stop, (just look at these postings)! I guess its more of an imsecurity thing about approaching people. I've been pretty isolated for the last several years to to health issues, but thanks to God and a couple of miracles this year my health is actually improving. Janie likes to say for 10 years she couldn't get two words out of me, and now she can't get me to shut up!

Yet another long note, but now you know I'm pretty much bed bound so I gots nothin' but time... For those of you who went to Cummings, remember Mr McGloughlin? (sp) He was the custodian. I ran into him at Capital Manor. He approached ME, and asked about each of my old friends by name, as well as my siblings and their friends by name. His memory is amazing, and if you have a chance he loves to visit. He runs the store in the basement at the Manor, so you might find him there if he isn't in his room.

Thanks again Peggy, this is way cool!

Hi all,

For those of you that had Mr. Boost for a Foreign Language class I seen that he passed away on May 1st.

Carmen Haynes (Nasholm)

I am very sad to hear about Herr Boost. I remember the German Club candy we sold during class and how if you got him talking about WW2, his brother who flew in the Luftwaffe and his father (a brewer) who was persecuted to some degree as a political dissident, the period was over...no assignments, no lessons, just great stories. He took our German Club to see the opera "Carmen" as he insisted that I had to see it for obvious reasons. What a great guy! After 3 years in his class I can only remember how to say a few things (the most important being "where is the bathroom") but his classes and the sense of WW2 history from a non-Americocentric perspective are very fond memories.

Thanks Peggy. So far everything's going well with Shannon and the baby. Hopefully, she'll be the spitting image of her mom.

Many of you may remember Mrs. Gillett, our Home Ec Teacher at Whiteaker. She passed away on May 5th. Her obituary can still be viewed online at statesmanjournal.com.
I had her for cooking and our class always seemed a bit rowdy but she was a patient woman.

Hello everyone. Just received the announcement in the mail today for the reunion this summer. Went right to this website, read all the postings. Funny to see how we viewed ourselves in school, I always thought I took the prize for the most shy!

Could it actually be 30 years? I remember when my own mother went to her 30 year reunion, man I thought she was so old then, never imagined my own 30 year reunion. Does this mean we are all old too?

Hi all,

I just spent an entertaining few minutes reading all of the recent posts. Keep them up, I'm still laughing and smiling about all the memories. Btw Dan Parker, I was also a graduate of Middle Grove (and still run into Mr. Slattum on occasion)! Though I also attended Washington elementary, Cummings and some school in WA before moving to OR. I guess that was all during my parent's nomadic stage of life! I'm glad they settled in Keizer and I had the opportunity to get to know all of you. Looking forward to the upcoming reunion!

I have not been to Salem in years, what has changed? Is Keizer still the same? What about McNary or the down town area?

Linda Satter (Heinsoo)

Wow it's been awhile since I have been here and read through these. I don't think I went to grade school with anyone from McNary, I went to Bethel Elementry which is out east of Salem on State Street. I did go to Waldo with a lot of you. Wendy, Ron Lenz, now I am just drawing a blank..........that's my memory for ya lol.
Any way I am really getting excited about the reunion.
This is a wonderful web site and I have so enjoyed it.

Duly noted, Dave. Can't seem to find my Middle Grove Yearbook (some 20 mimeographed stapled pages, as I recall) that would provide additional names. Looks like we've lost our Elementary Schools List anyway so I won't stress it. That's great that Mr. Slattum is still around. What a cool thing it was to have a 5th grade teacher who was a body-builder and had a weight bench in the back of the classroom. I remember the bench press competitions against his 6th grade class before the morning bell rang. He was one of my favorites, along with Mr. Walburg and Miss Walsh. I think I can speak for both of us when I say that Tim Nichols and I would have done anything for Miss Walsh. Btw, thanks for your work on the reunion. I won't make it to Oregon this summer, but it's looking to be a great time.

What I would like to know is how Laura Matthys has not aged a single day in 30 years? Just so you know there are many of us that are attending as singles so if you wanted to attend but thought you had to have a date that's not true. We will be in fact raffling off Dave Weaver if we run short on funds to have the reunion.

He is multi-talented, can clean, cook, walk dogs, shovel snow and any other tasks you decide you don't want to do.

Bidding starts at $50.00

I can still remember a group of us riding around in Connie's big convertible after leaving a field trip. I think it was a trip that Mr. Markee's class took to Chemeketa(he was my favorite teacher)and we drove out to Wheatland Ferry...??? To this day I am always reminded of Marilyn Monroe when I think of Connie...glamour and Hollywood. Maybe because I grew up on a farm that was so far away from school and also was kinda shy.

I am amazed that so many fellow classmates (5?) live in my little town of Silverton and I never bump into them. I did just see Julie Gustan in a plant nursery the other day and we both recognized each other immediately - probably because we've both had our memories refreshed from this website.

I wanted to let those who knew Teddy Sarbacher. He passed away in December 17, 2006. Teddy fell off a ladder at work in Alaska and broke his neck and died instantly. Teddy and I dated back 1987 and we share a daughter. Our relationship didn't last but we do have a beautiful daughter who misses him dearly. She was his only child and he spoiled her rotten. Just thought I would let people know even if he didn't graduate,he went to Cummings,Whiteaker, and McNary. He spent four years in the Navy also. Thanks for letting me share this with everyone.

Heya Lisa,
So very sorry for your loss. I'm sure you and your daughter have some great memories of him.
When I saw your message I was totally amazed. You even remembered my Grandma's name. I feel bad though that I can't remember what your Grandma's name was. I remember vividly going over there with you to her house, How it smelled, and her comforting smile when you introduced me to her.
Since my Mom passed a few things have changed in my life.
After 23 years of being married and raising my first two boys I've remarried. Doug and I were married about 3.5 years ago. I got to inherrit 2 more boys who are now 10 and 16. That is quite a story withing itself though.
This last year I started working at the high school here in Oakland. What a kick. They're like little kids only tall.
Our great dane, Paddy, was 13 March 17th. She is doing just great. Who'd of known?
My husband bought me one of those Trikkes. What a blast.
If you want to look at them on line just go to www.Trikke.com.
My e-mail address is; mrs.grimm@charter.net.
Hope to hear from you girlfreind,
Jacque

Connie,

We have PLENTY of funds, therefore NO raffle!! :) Though I like the idea of a possible fund to get my son through his next phase of college...

I just wanted to say that down the street from the conference center, where our reunion is at, is a very trendy salon (Salon 554). I should know because I work there. If you want to book a spa package or get your hair done check out this salon. The website is: www.salon554.com. I do not do hair but I am an esthetician. Hey, you want to look all spiffy don't ya???
