Mark Cooper

March 2, 1951 - March 10, 2015

Mark Allen Cooper, CW2 (Ret) (64) passed away March 10, 2015 from COPD and Congestive Heart Failure.

Born March 2, 1951 in Portland, Oregon to James and Lois Cooper. The family moved to Salem in 1962 and he graduated from South Salem High School in 1969. He attended OCE (now WOU) in 1969-70.

In 1971 Mark entered the US Army. He served in New Mexico and in Germany, he left the Army in 1973. Mark joined the Oregon National Guard in April 1974 and served in Cavalry and Headquarters retiring in 1993 as a CW2. He worked as a Civil Service Employee for the National Guard from 1974-99. He served as Past Department Commander of the American Legion in 1991-92, was District Commander and Capitol Post 9 Commander as well.

He married Kathryn Hayward in November 1974, had two sons, Chad and Sean. They divorced in 1986. He married Patty Eamons Fields in 1987 in Reno, NV. They celebrated 28 years of marriage in January 2015.

He was active in the bowling league at Cherry City Bowl and worked there during High school to 1983. Mark enjoyed golf, fishing, and working to help veterans (taking care of the troops).

He is survived by wife Patty, Sons Chad (wife Holly) and Sean. Grandchildren Jordyn, Hunter and Jasmyn; brother Todd, sisters Marsha and Brenda. 

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 21st at the American Legion Circle in City View Cemetery. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home. Donations may be sent to Wounded Warriors Project or to the animal shelter of your choice.
