Liz and I became good friends as soon as she moved to Morningside Grade School in the 5th grade. As we grew up together, I learned about diabetes and how hard it must have been for a kid to say no to all the junk food the rest of us ate. We use to talk about how it is for a kid to be so different with something like diabetes. Liz was a marvel to me because her discipline with her health was more than I could imagine having to manage.

Liz was smart, mischievous and fun. I can still see the sparkle in her eyes when I nearly gagged as she proudly displayed her tonsils in a bottle!

Not only did she not complain, but she laughed easily and often. She was grown up beyond our age, and she taught me much. Liz's good cheer makes me smile now, as it always does when I have remembered her over the years.

Thank you for sharing your story, Jan. Liz was a very kind person. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
