Dick and I went to gradeschool and on through South together. He lived just up the street from me as kids. His sister and family even live in his family childhood home now. Dick was a quiet fellow and a good guy.
He became a pediatric dentist and my kids went to him early on. His passing saddens me so. This took me by total surprise. Such a loss. My thoughts are with his family.

I'm so sorry to learn of Dick's passing. I was so in hopes of seeing him at our reunion. We skied together in High School. He always had an easy smile. He is missed. My thoughts are also with his family.

Dick was a stalwart in South's fabulous pep band that had a lot to do with the big-time atmosphere at Saxons basketball games. (I think he played alto saxophone.)

His father was my eye doctor, and I think it says a lot about the Rowell family that both Dick, a pediatric dentist, and his younger brother Dave, an ophthalmologist like his dad, joined the medical professions.

It turns out, by pure happenstance, I drove past Dick's house Saturday afternoon on Sunridge Drive in Candelaria. That tiny, narrow street will loom large in my otherwise sunny memories of this past weekend.

Both my boys had Dick as their dentist & I always enjoyed taking them to their appointments because Dick would always come out & chat.

I would still see Dick on & off as I walked in the Croisan Mtn. area & he would stop & we would chat some more...sailing, cars etc.

While growing up I saw Dick all the time, just lived up the street from me and next to Craig Poole...great family.

It's funny, somehow Dick managed to play it straight while always surrounded by the rest of us that always liked to get in trouble.

And what a small world, my wife works for his brother David at Eye Care Physicians & Surgeons.

Love Ya Dick...we're all gonna miss you...

Brad and I just got home from Dick's funeral. A lovely service and some great personal thoughts and pictures of friends and family. One thing brought to our attention is that depression can be fatal and if you know someone you suspect may be suffering from this disease ask some questions. "Press them a little, not alot, but a little". Dick will be greatly missed, not only by his family, his past and present patients, but by the rest of us too.

I knew Dick from 4th grade. We were friends through school. We even were college room mates our first year at Oregon State. I have great memories of Dick in college. We occasionally played golf, enjoyed cycling and crewed for sailing races. In the dental community, Dick had an excellent reputation. He was a beloved children's dentist. He was a great man to know and will be missed by many. Our prayers are for his family and friends, for comfort and healing.
