Mike Sproule had a lot of talents, especially in the areas of art and sports, but he was always the first to admit that he was a very messed-up person.

He probably had some disorders like ADD that are better understood now than they were in our day, and sometimes he felt like a pariah. The rumors I’ve heard about his death made it sound like he jumped off a roof during an LSD trip. Or maybe that’s just what he himself predicted.

My most vivid memory of Mike is that whenever someone was disparaging him or his habits, his mantra was: "I've changed a lot since then." That was very believable and touching.

Neither school nor Camp Silver Creek would have been as enriching without Mike. A lot of us liked him. He was not forgettable.

I didn't know Mike personally but I sure do remember him in the back of the room cracking jokes and making everybody laugh. Seems like it was math class or English. He really livened it up.
