Very tragic. I didn’t know her, but my impression is that Sonja was a very reticent young woman and that her family had immigrated from Norway when she was small.
Sonja underwent long-awaited surgery for scoliosis (curvature of the spine) in 1970, but she never recovered.
Her younger sister, Betty Lou, also died in 1970; murdered, I think. Betty Lou was mistreated by a lot of people, including some of her schoolmates. I imagine that made a difficult situation worse for Sonja, too.

I had driver's ed in the summer with Sonja. She was a sweet girl, very shy, but we had some crazy fun in the car driving!
