I didn't know Charlie well - but certainly knew of his antics (some of which I believe I MAY have been on the periphery of....)! I'm sorry to see that his "rose" is gone - so in order for him to be recognized in his own right - and he certainly was a BIG part of the class of 1969 - I'll post this as a "book mark" until another fun story is posted in his memory....
I'm sorry that Charlie won't be with us to celebrate this time.....

Jody - you say it well. Yes - he does need to be remembered. That's why I e-mailed Cora last month, when I saw he WASN'T on the deceased list. There will simply never be another Charlie Bello, and to describe all of his antics in HS.....well that would be a "book" in itself! Those of you that read my earlier post about him - that was just the tip of the iceberg. Of ALL THE PEOPLE I knew in HS - he was without question the most "colorful" - IMPOSSIBLE TO FORGET. He was truly the "king of mischief". Jody - you pointed it out beautifully in one of your e-mails to me - SSHS 1969 was NOT just the academics, sports, plays, music, etc. = there was truly another facet, and that - I was trying to explain / expose through Charlie. He was the "king of the party crowd". Period. "Wild and crazy" he would literally try anything and was completely fearless. This would serve him well in later life - as he built high "towers" (very dangerous) for a company called Microflect and I'm glad it was him - not me, climbing around on those things! Sure - the stories I mentioned in my earlier post paint us as immature kids, that's what we were and that's what I was trying to do = capture that "moment" in time. Nick fulwiler pointed it out to me the other night - very simply "we were kids having fun". I think we needed Charlie back then to kind of "round us out" in some way - that's why SO MANY PEOPLE liked to / hang out with / be around him!. It was all about fun. Charlie grew up in a junkyard - NOT CANDALARIA! What - is that something new? Everyone knew that! NOBODY held it against him - that's just WHO he was! He was ALWAYS pushing the limit, and lived on the edge - virtually his whole life. He was definately the King of South Salem "juice" (and I don't mean alcohol). Believe me people (from experience) - when you got together / hung - out with Charlie "SOMETHING" was going to happen - and you'd better not be "faint of heart"! PS - the SSDT "south salem drinking team" = Charlie one of the founders (and appx. 25 guys), started out as a joke - and pretty soon we had membership cards! Another PS - the girls all liked him too = he had a nice smile, and they thought he was "cute".

I too remember charlie. As another guy from accross the tracks. I remember him well. Do you remember, it was Charlie that shaped and welded the metal Door that kept undesirables out of the fort in Bush Park. He was smarter than people gave him credit for. He was one of a kind and I will miss him
