Dick was a dynamic skier, good friend and genuine "good guy." His energy and friendship is missed....

Dick lived down the street from me in grade school. We grew up together. Summer nights were especially fun because we would gather the kids in the neighborhood and roam as a band (in today's language, we were probably a gang of sorts. His and Kathy's wedding was, if i recall, the first of our crowd. Dick lived every single day that i knew him as if there would be no tomorrow. He was always good for laughter and pranks, and he had a heart of gold.

Don't know why it has taken me so long to post an entry on Dick's page.  I guess I felt it was so personal and couldn't decide the right words to describe my memories and maybe bring up a lot of pain, but as a good friend reminded me not too long ago, it isn't always about me!   So for those of you who remember Dick from Judson and sophomore class (his parents sent him to the Catholic school for Junior and Senior years- I guess they thought he needed a little more structure) I wanted to share some thoughts.

Dick and I got married the year we graduated and were blessed with 2 beautiful children, a son and a daughter.  Dick loved life and lived it to the fullest- sometimes to the dismay of others!  He loved racing his sand rail and other vehicles, camping, skiing and his family. In 1976 we got the words no one wants to hear- cancer.  After a 2 year battle Dick died.    His children grew and flourished.  His son was his spitting image and also lived on the edge.  When someone told him maybe he should take it a little easier he said "what do you want me to do?  Get a library card?"  Ha!  He liked the speed and was an adrenaline junkie just like his father.  At age 39 Rich died of a heart attack, leaving 3 small children.  I have some comfort in knowing they are together forever, and am so grateful for the time we all had together.
