I remember sitting next to Kent in class (I think it was Mrs. Neiman's English class) and on more than one occasion he would bang out a very good rendition of the Surfari's "Wipe Out" drum introduction on his desk. I, along with several other students, were fascinated with his free expression of his talent. I'm sure Kent enjoyed the attention he received from his fellow students for his performance although the teacher did not appreciate the distraction. Kent had a very free spirit and loved being the center of attention. I was such a shy person in high school and Kent was just the opposite and I admired that he was so free to express himself. We didn't have any association outside of the classroom but my memories of our occasional conversations across the aisle were pleasant and friendly. I sometimes think of Kent whenever I hear the song "Wipe Out" and can still hear the banging on the desk next to me in class.
